James W. Seabolt, 88, passed away Thursday, February 17, 2022 and his loving and devoted wife of 66 years, Dora Cooksey Seabolt, 85, passed away early Friday, February 18, 2022. Born in Tazewell, VA, James was the son of the late William Henry and Laura M. Catron Seabolt. Dora was born in Croom, Maryland, the daughter of the late George and Mabel Smalley Cooksey.
After high school, James enlisted in the US Air Force, where he served for four (4) years as an Aircraft Mechanic. On September 30, 1955, James married the love of his life, Dora Cooksey Seabolt. Following active duty in the US Air Force, James continued his military career in the DC Air National Guard, where he served as a Flight Engineer and retired as a Senior Master Sergeant.
Dora was a homemaker who treasured the time she spent with her husband and children. She was a self-taught seamstress who also enjoyed crocheting. Each of her grandchildren were gifted beautiful blankets made with love from their “Nanny’s” hands and heart. She also enjoyed crafts and spent much time making wreaths and ornaments. She and James traveled the world and made wonderful memories.
A true family historian, James wrote two books, “Seabolt Side” and “Catron Side” that told the stories of the two families. He loved woodworking, tinkering with cars, and gardening. Most importantly, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Upon his final retirement, James and Dora moved to West Virginia where they resided until 2015 when they relocated to Loris, SC.
He is survived by his daughters, Patricia Cornett, Pandora Casella, Penny Kennedy; six grandsons, three granddaughters; three great-grandsons, three great-granddaughters; and one great-granddaughter expected to arrive any day.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, February 25, 2022 at Lee Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will receive friends from 11:00 until the service begins at noon. There will be a private burial in Florence National Cemetery on Monday, February 28, 2022.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Alzheimer’s Association.
