

James Melvin Howard (“Mickey”), age 74, died February 29, 2020 at his home in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Born on October 22, 1945 in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late William Albert and Virginia Swann Carson Howard.
Mr. Howard is survived by his children Nicole Ryan (Vincent) and Clint Howard (Delina Tyson); one sister, Patricia Candleana; and two grandchildren, Jack Ryan and Fox Howard.
Mickey served in the United States Air Force from February 1966 until April 1967 as a Fire Protection Specialist in the Vietnam War. He then worked for the Prince Georges County Fire Department in Maryland until his retirement in 1991.
Mickey was an avid golfer and could usually be found either working or playing at the Bowie Golf Course in Bowie, Maryland. He loved sharing his passion for the game and mentoring young golfers especially his grandson Jack.
Services will be held privately with the family and friends on Tuesday, March 10, 2020 from 4 to 6 pm at Bowie Golf Course and in Myrtle Beach at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, Mickey’s children would like for you to go out and play a round of golf with your loved ones in his honor.
