James Lynwood “Jim” Weeks, 76 of North Myrtle Beach, went to his eternal resting place on Sunday, June 11, 2023, at Conway Medical Center. He was the loving husband of Sharon (Hewett) Weeks.
Jim was born on January 10, 1947, in Warrenton, Virginia. He was the son of the late CM SGT William Lynwood Weeks and Eileen Matthews Weeks.
Jim attended schools overseas where his dad was stationed and truly loved Ireland (where his mother was raised in County Cork) and Scotland. Returning to the states, Jim graduated from Garrett High School in Charleston, S.C. and received the degree of Bachelor of Science in History in 1969 at Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville, TN. In addition, Jim furthered his education at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY.
Jim was a US Navy veteran and proudly served his country on the USS Coronado. Jim moved to Surfside Beach after his honorable discharge from the US Navy.
Jim and Sharon were wed August 10, 1974, at First United Methodist Church in Myrtle Beach and made many fond memories in their 48 years together. They moved to Atlanta, GA and later resided in Hilton Head Island before moving to North Myrtle Beach, SC.
Jim and Sharon transferred their membership from Saint Andrew By the Sea United Methodist Church in Hilton Head Island to Little River United Methodist Church in 1986. The ministers and church family there inspired nurtured and blessed Jim and his family as they journeyed on their faith walk.
Jim worked hard all his life providing for his family and was known for his strong work ethic. Jim’s artistic culinary and management skills were utilized in a variety of resort restaurants throughout his career. He delighted many palates with delectable creations when he was in the employ of Hudson’s Seafood House, Gulfstream Café, Anchor Inn, Ocean Creek Resort, the Hilton Myrtle Beach Resort, the Landmark Resort, Bay Watch and as the Executive Chef / owner of Coastal Catering Services. Even after retiring he still enjoyed working part time in the food service business as he was employed by Aramark at C.C.U. at the time of his passing.
Jim had a passion for nature, history and the importance of enlightening future generations of being good stewards of what God created. Jim was an Atlanta Falcons fan, enjoyed the beach, swimming, fishing with his grandsons, encouraged his granddaughter’s interest in the culinary arts and was fond of taking walks with his youngest grandson while they talked about the squirrels, birds and trees.
In addition to his wife, Jim is also survived by a son, James William Weeks, a daughter, Ashley Weeks Delgado and her husband, Jesse Delgado. Three grandchildren; Jordan James Delgado, Madison Lee Weeks, and Kristopher Glenn Delgado. In addition, Jim is survived by a brother, Patrick B. Weeks, a sister Suzanne W. Lara, and a sister-in-law, Mary (Beth) Riddell. Additionally, Jim is survived by three nephews, three nieces, extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by a brother, Phillip "Gary" Weeks, who passed away November 13, 2010
The memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. in the church sanctuary on Monday, June 19, 2023, at Little River United Methodist Church, 1629 Hwy 17, Little River, S.C. 29566 with a flag presentation and TAPS provided by the US Navy. Rev. Emily Kirby will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service in the Life Center.
