Janet was born at home in Montour Falls, NY in 1928. She graduated from Odessa High School, earned a pre-nursing degree from Elmira College and went on to earn her RN at Columbia Presbyterian School of Nursing in 1951.
Janet had a passion for nursing which began when she was a child, even though her father wanted her to be a teacher instead. She spent her career as an RN and continued being “the nurse lady” even after retirement. She was a nurse at Staten Island Hospital for two years and then became a nurse supervisor at Sailors Snug Harbor on Staten Island, NY, where she remained until 1967 when her husband, Cliff, took a job transfer to Jacksonville, FL.
In Jacksonville, FL, she was a rehab nurse for the State of Florida and then was promoted to a Senior Nursing Consultant job. Subsequently, she transferred to Tallahassee, FL, where she was appointed as Bureau Chief of Workers Compensation/Rehabilitation by the governor. She remained there until she retired in 1991.
She was a founder and President of FSARN (Florida Association of Rehabilitation Nurses) and remained active in that organization even after retirement.
Janet is remembered by many as a caring influence who was always happy to “take a look” at some injury or be supportive in medical challenges.
Janet was preceded in death by her husband Cliff and her son Cliff (Hank) and is survived by her daughter, Susan, three grandchildren (Jenny, Jake and Lori) and six great grandchildren (Caedmon, Logan, Francesca, Abigail, Carter and Michael).
A celebration of life will be held Thursday, March 6, 2025 at 11 AM at Brightwater, 101 Brightwater Dr., Myrtle Beach, SC.
