John was born in Johnson City, NY, on December 8, 1937, the son of the late Clair O. and Kathryne (Hillis) Chaney.
He retired from IBM as a computer programmer.
He was a member of Grace Anglican Parish in Little River.
In addition to his wife, John is survived by two sons; Christopher Chaney (Marianne) and Mark Chaney, and a daughter, Michelle Cimino. He had nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren, and a sister-in-law, Mary Anne Chaney, and nephew, Michael Chaney (Sounia) and niece Maryanne Chaney. He is also survived by brother-in-law James Breed (Lynn).
Visitation will be held from 10-11 am on Monday, March 30, 2026, at Lee Funeral Home and Crematory, 11840 Hwy 90, Little River SC.
A memorial service will begin at 11:00 am at the funeral home with the Rev. Cindy Larsen officiating.
