
Born on December 29, 1926 in Fort Mill, SC, he was the son of the late James Edward and Mary Strickland Harper.
Mr. Harper served his country proudly during World War II in the U.S. Navy. He was a Chief Petty Officer, Gunnery Officer and served on Shore Patrol in San Diego and San Francisco, CA and Australia. He was a member of York Rite Masonic Lodge #210 in Durham, NC, and a Shriner-Amran. He was a member of Lowes Grove Baptist Church in Durham, NC and owned and operated a business for over 25 years in Durham.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 62 years, Melissa Flint Harper; three sons, Timothy W. Harper (Elizabeth Boylan), John C. Harper, Jr. (Lan), Mark F. Harper (Alecia); two daughters, Sondra A. Harper Michaels (Gary), Lisa M. Harper; three sisters, Mary Sue King, Jeanette Culp and Helen Holtzclaw; six grandchildren, Meghan Harper, Eric Michaels, John Patrick Harper, Heath Michaels, Catherine Harper and Thomas Harper; and four great grandchildren, Olive and Jet Harper, Seth and Ethan Michaels.
Services will be held privately at a later date.
