

John “Jack” K. Lauer, a dedicated servant to his country and community, passed away unexpectedly on September 9, 2024 at the age of 75 at his home in Little River, SC. Born in Hazleton, PA on October 27, 1948. Jack lived a life marked by service, commitment, and camaraderie.
Jack proudly served in the United States Navy for four years, where he developed a deep sense of duty and patriotism. Following his military service, he embarked on a distinguished 28-year career with the Central Intelligence Agency, contributing significantly to national security and intelligence operations. His expertise and dedication were further exemplified during his nine years at Lockheed Martin.
Beyond his professional achievements, Jack was a 57-year member of the American Legion and was an avid member of the American Legion Riders at Post 14 in Martinsburg, WV. As a charter member, he found joy and purpose in the fellowship and community service that the Riders embodied. Jack played a large role in helping raise funds for Boys state of West Virginia. His commitment to the American Legion Riders was a testament to his enduring spirit of service and charity.
Jack also served his community through his involvement with the Kiwanis, where he enjoyed working with the Key Club at Hedgesville High School. He is remembered for his steadfast support of veterans and all who serve.
Jack is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Nancy J. Lauer; his two daughters, Jocelyn Lauer (Mike Mason) and Jillian Basanes (Jayson); and his cherished grandchildren, Lucas and Julianne Hornbaker. He is also survived by his sister, Marcy Kreischer, and his brother, James Lauer (Cheryl), along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Jack never met a stranger and was dedicated to all his friends and family. His family, friends, and colleagues will remember him for his untiring dedication, kindness, and sense of humor. His legacy of service and commitment to his country and community will continue to inspire all who knew him.
A memorial service will be held on October 26, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Hedges Chapel at the Woods Resort in Hedgesville, WV where friends and family will gather to celebrate Jack’s remarkable life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to any of the following organizations in Jack’s honor (Samaritan's Purse samaritanspurse.org, St. Jude or your local American Legion)
Jack’s life was a testament to the values of service, loyalty, and community. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered by those whose lives he touched.
