

Born on October 18, 1939, to William and Serafina DeMayo of North Haledon, New Jersey, she married her high school sweetheart, Vito Kepenis, on November 9, 1963, and resided in West Paterson, New Jersey.
Kathleen received a B.S. degree in science from Montclair State College and became a biology teacher. Formerly a long-time resident of Ringwood, NJ, she taught at DePaul Catholic High School in Wayne, NJ, while raising her three children.
She and her husband retired to North Myrtle Beach in 1997. She was a parishioner of Our Lady Star of the Sea and a member of the Ladies Guild. She is a life-time member of the Yaupon Garden Club, and participated in numerous local organizations such as Meals on Wheels, as well as fund raising activities in the fight against cancer, to which she was a survivor. Kathleen was passionate about helping others and found great pleasure in volunteering for these and numerous other good causes.
Kathleen is survived by her loving husband, Vito, of 56 years; sister Roberta Zink of Toms River, NJ; two sons, Mark and Kevin Kepenis, both of NJ; daughter Karen Krein of Fairfax, VA; and 6 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
A funeral service is scheduled for 11:00am on Thursday, July 30, at Our Lady Star of the Sea. Immediately following the service, interment of the ashes will be at the church columbarium.
