Kenn was born in Trenton, NJ where he lived with his parents and brother until he joined the US Marine Corp in 1951. He served as an infantry squad leader and photographer in the Korean War until 1954. On his return from the war, Kenn took advantage of the GI college grant and he attended Rider College in NJ, graduating with a BS in Journalism in 1958. Kenn then pursued a journalistic career, working for the Princeton Packet in Princeton, NJ as a reporter and editor and the Trenton Times as a reporter and copy editor. In his journalistic career, Kenn interviewed many luminaries, including Eleanor Roosevelt, Fidel Castro and J. Robert Oppenheimer. Kenn decided to bring his journalistic skills to the private market and he worked for a range of private companies and NJ governmental positions, finally retiring as Assistant to the Director from the NJ Division of Taxation in 1988.
Kenn married the love of his life, Clare, in 1956 whom he met when he was best man at his brother’s wedding and Clare was maid-of-honor at her sister’s wedding. Kenn and Clare had four children which they raised in a loving environment in Yardley, PA. Upon retirement, Kenn and Clare moved from PA to Little River, SC where they lived for the remainder of their lives. It was with extreme heartbreak that Kenn was with Clare when she died in 2022.
Kenn leaves behind him four children, five grandchildren, sadly two deceased, and two great grandchildren. Kenn will be missed for his wit, his intelligence, his love and his generosity.
There will be a private family celebration of his life. Those who wish to commemorate his life may consider a contribution to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Hospice (Donate Now · Lower Cape Fear LifeCare) or plant a tree in his name.
