Margot (née Maddox) Johnson was born in 1949 to Elizabeth and Warren Frank Maddox in Chatham Township, NJ. She had a brother, Doug Maddox (Carol) of Seymour, IL and a sister, Dorcas Berg (Charlie) of North Myrtle Beach, SC.
Just after Margot graduated High School, the Maddoxes moved from NJ to Florence, SC. She enrolled in the University of Tennessee, but ended up leaving to support her mother and family after the passing of her father. Her first child, Alexa, was born in 1978 in Columbia.
In 1982 at a Christian Fellowship event at the Harbison Recreation Center, Margot met Ron and they hit it off immediately. After just three short months of courtship, the two would be married. Two more children would come from their union - Kerry in 1984 and Kirk in 1987.
She was always focused on caring for her family, but did work as an accountant for different companies (including Ron’s) and did administration work for the University of South Carolina. Margot and Ron were active members of Ashland United Methodist Church for over 40 years - participating in numerous women’s and men’s groups, VBS and many others. Most recently she had come to love her time spent learning with the Shepherd Center and had served as treasurer for the Women’s Circle at Ashland.
Margot adored historical architecture - specifically the Victorian and gilded age era. She loved collecting dolls, antiques and artwork of this time period, and visiting historical homes whenever she traveled. She had a flair for color and design herself and worked as an interior decorator for a time; she also helped support the family by creating and selling custom hand-painted wall hangings. Margot loved classic musicals and she and Ron were subscribers at Town Theatre for over a decade.
More than anything, Margot was a devoted wife and mother, a loving sister, a kind aunt, a lifelong friend - she was warm-hearted, caring and accepting to all. She is survived by three children- Alexa MacMurray (Angela) of Fredericksburg, VA; Kerry Johnson (Jon) of Cayce, SC and grandson Kaiden; and Kirk Johnson (Krizza) of Clermont, FL., as well as many nephews and nieces.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm Friday, August 8th, 2025 at Ashland UMC, with visitation following at the church.
