Mitchell Lee Sapanic, age 65, formerly of Elmira, NY, but a resident of Myrtle Beach for the past 11 years, passed away suddenly on March 22, 2021 in his home.
Mitchell was a NYS Corrections Officer for his entire adult life where he traveled through the ranks and eventually became sergeant. He was a proud member of the C.E.R.T (Certified Emergency Rescue Team) and Tactical training teams before his retirement. He loved attending hockey games for the Elmira Jackals when living in Elmira, enjoyed watching the Giants on TV and playing cards with his buddies.
Mitchell was a giant of a man that never met a stranger. He was loud, boisterous and a complete smart ass, but to know him was to love him. He had the biggest of hearts and a laugh that was bigger than life, you couldn’t help but laugh with him. He was loved by so very many and he loved just as many. To say that he will be missed is an understatement, there will forever be a void that will never be filled.
He wanted nothing more than to spend his retirement living and enjoying his life and spending time with his family. That is exactly what he did. He enjoyed spending time at the beach, playing games on the computer and throwing back a few Vodka’s with some of his favorite people “the Corner Crew” and the staff members at both Handley’s, MB and Grumpy Monk, MB. These special people became like family and they loved them dearly. He could usually be found sitting at the corner of the bar usually talking peoples ears off about his family, especially his grandchildren. He loved spending time with them, whether it was laying on the floor playing peek-a-boo, building things, or playing games. His little monkey, little missy, and little muffin sure did have him wrapped around their little fingers. His grandchildren were the lights of his life and he made sure everyone knew it. Mitchell was a loving father, husband, Papa and friend to all.
Mitchell is survived by his wife of 43 years, Stella Sapanic; son Jason Sapanic and his wife Stephanie Lapinski; his daughter, Jessica Allen; his grandchildren, Alexandria and Nathan Callahan; Ethan Allen (Little Monkey), Avery Allen (Little Missy) and Addison Allen (Little Muffin); his sister Lisa Bliss Kessler; brothers Terry Bliss and Ronald Havlen; several nieces and nephews; as well as many special friends that were also family.
A special “Celebration of Life” will be held in Mitch’s honor on Friday, March, 26 from Noon to 2:00 pm, at Handley’s Pub & Grille, Myrtle Beach and from 3:00 to 5:00 pm at Grumpy Monk, Myrtle Beach. All our welcome. Please stop by, fill out a memory card, share a story or two and let’s celebrate Mitch to the highest!
