I still miss my friend very much so.  Pete was one of the BEST. Until we meet again my friend.

Pete was a full of life person.  I always looked for opportunities to work together, and we had many with him giving unique and valuable insights. The City of North myrtle beach was much better because of him. 
A true professional man with heart. I miss him.

  Words can not express how much Pete and you all mean to us! I met Pete through supervising together at the Panthers Stadium. Instantly you could tell he was a genuine guy that always had a smile on his face. He loved life and lived it to the fullest and he wasn’t afraid of what other people thought because he was always genuine to himself. His jovial spirit and zest for life is something I’ll never forget. 

  Most of our favorite times were hanging with you all in Cherry Grove and of course going to Rioz ;) I’m deeply saddened I couldn’t be there for the service but please know we are thinking of you and love you! I can remember the first time I met Pete, he left that much of an impression on people.  Such an all around great guy.  We have lost him much too soon.  Our prayers are with Laurie and the whole family, as this is a tremendous loss.   May we all find Pete’s spirit in the vastness of the ocean that he loved so dearly.

I’m very shocked and saddened by the news of Pete’s passing! Pete was Tony’s Sig Ep Little Brother in college. There were a lot of craziness and laughter with those guys! Then Tony and Pete shared an apartment in Columbia when they got out of college. They saved money by not running the AC -miserable hot in their apartment! To cool off they would take a swim in the pool before bedtime! Lots of fun memories! 
I’m sure Tony is greeting Pete in Heaven with a Cold Beer! These two guys left us way  too early! Both at 59 years old! 
My thoughts and prayers are with Laurie and his family today and the days ahead!

I'm going to miss Pete's laugh more than anything. I always knew that if I needed anything, I could ask Pete for help and he would do anything he could to help. The world is a smaller place today without him. Sail on my friend.

We are so sad to hear of Pete's passing. He was a great guy and we could tell he truly enjoyed life. I'm so glad y'all found each other! We have great memories of days on the lake with y'all and Zach has fond memories of Mr. Pete taking time to play with him. I know he will be missed.

Stacey and I are very sorry to hear of this news. Pete will be so missed. Loved working with him at the AG's office, back in the day when he shared a cubicle with Mike "Crash" Harmon and I shared one with "Super Dave" Graddick. We had some really great times back then. You were always the life of the party. Rockaway's Crawfish Festival, TAG Christmas parties, and all the in-office antics and gambling are highlights of our memories from back then. That time was truly the "good old days," and we are glad you were there to share it with us. Our sincerest condolences to Laurie and to Pete's family.

Harold and I are deeply saddened upon learning of Pete’s passing!  We are so very sorry for your loss. Although it has been many years ago we have fond memories of spending time with you and Pete at Lake Murray Marina and the cigar bar in Charleston.   Harold fondly referred to you and him as “Pete and Repete”.  So sorry we didn’t keep in touch over the years.   Our sincere condolences.....

Pete served his country through military service, his community through the chamber of commerce and is well liked and respected among his co-workers.  An overall excellent guy.  Gonna miss him!

I am so very sorry for your loss!  I was devastated to hear the terrible news. I will always remember Pete's smiling face, his humor, and his love of life! Words fail me in this moment, I just can't convey how sad I am, I will truly miss him.

Laurie - Shelly and I extend thoughts, prayers and a great big hug to you.   Pete was my friend.  We met when he and a handful of bright eyed Lieutenants came to work for the FMO shop with the SC Army National Guard.  Colonial Joe Vann had his hands full.  All those guys excelled.  Pete was a huge ray of sunshine and touched many lives, mine included. Never a dull moment when Pete was around. The stories are too many to share here so grab me sometime and let me tell you a story or three.  Goodbye my friend until we meet again.

I got to serve with Pete numerous times over our respective Guard careers.  My most fond memory is working tank gunnery at Ft Stewart.  Pete always made things fun, and funny.   I will miss him.  The world is a better place because he was in it.   My condolences to the family.

I am so sorry to learn of Pete's passing.  I. didn't know he was ill and was completely shocked when I heard the sad news.  Pete has been one of my most favorite people for so many years, through our work together for the Guard, National Guard Conventions, and most recently in his role at the NMB Chamber.  On my last visit there in early March he told me how very happy you guys were and how much you loved being at the Beach.  I will miss him greatly and am honored to have called him friend.  You are in my prayers.

I am very saddened to hear of COL Brooks passing.   My heart and prayers go out to the family.  Pete was certainly one of those guys you could count on for leadership and guidance.  Being only a phone call away, you were never a disturbance to him.  Pete, may you Rest In Peace and May God rest your family in the comfort of His hands as they grieve for you.

Pete was an excellent example of a solid citizen who serviced his Country & State well in the military.  He carried forth the honesty, caring, get the job done bearing into Chamber work. He acted in all ways trustworthy and positive way. Professionally and personally, I truly miss him. 👍🇱🇷🤪❤️


Pete was one of those giants you rarely meet in life. I’m not saying that just because he was way taller than me and I felt like a 10 yr old next to him. But I’m talking about his presence, his ability to command attention, his influence across so many people - when Pete was smiling, seemed everyone around him was too. I’ll miss that big grin. See you in Heaven, sir! 

I want to express my sincere condolences to the Brooks family. I had the pleasure of working with Pete at SC Health and Human Services in Columbia for several years. Pete served with authenticity, passion and seriousness yet always was able to find joy in the moment even in very challenging times. 
He often spoke fondly of his wife and of his love of being a boat captain in the Myrtle Beach area. 
Pete was a servant leader, and a soldier who loved his country and his family. He will truly be missed.

Col. Brooks always lead from the front and always bought the first round! I am very saddened to hear of his passing but I know that he lived life in the moment, not waiting, not delaying. We are all better for knowing him. My sincerest condolences to his family. 

Having served along side him, Pete REALLY lived every minute of his life - - at full speed - - a life too short.  Most sincere condolences, Laurie.


My running buddy from Duke! Pete had terrific energy, positive spirit, and a generous heart. Grateful to him for helping Greg get a job at the Panthers. We shared beers and a love of dogs, the ocean, and Jimmy Buffett.

Hey Laurie - I didn't know Pete that well but I know what kind of man he was because a) he drove you all the way to Charlotte so you could keep me company while I was  trapped there and b) he had the good sense to marry you . That's a good man. You are in my heart and in my mind.

Pete and I grew up together in the guard and as we crossed paths we always were looking to see what kind of trouble we could get into next. He and Freddie saw each other regularly as they worked in the same building together.  I will never forget him because he was undeniably the best at his job! Pete and I became friends while working in the facilities department at the National Guard. There were several of us that were young officers and it was a great learning experience. Col Vann was our senior leader and we all
Loved and respected him. 
Almost every one of us made COL that worked during those years. Pete made work fun. He had one gear, full tilt.

Please know that my heart is broken right now.  Colonel Brooks (Peter) was very supportive of my career milestones in the SCARNG over the years.

  I joked about coming back into the ARNG immediately after a relaxing seven years on active duty in the USAF at Charleston as a C-141B loadmaster, and returning to the ARNG after serving up in Maine. I said, "Sir, I'm am am outsider from the state of Maine"; he laughed and replied, "I'm originally from New Jersey, so don't feel so bad, Sgt. Harris". We laughed together.

Working with Pete in the SC National Guard Department of the Adjutant General was an absolute pleasure.  Perpetually upbeat, Colonel Brooks treated everyone equally without regard to rank.
