

Richard Edward Stover, Sr., age 86, of North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, passed away on Saturday, December 20, 2025. He was born in Fayette County, West Virginia, to the late Horace Ridgeway Stover and Margie Ann Davis.
Richard grew up in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, where he attended public schools and graduated from Glen Burnie High School. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Catawba College in Salisbury, North Carolina and a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from Wake Forest University Law School. He maintained a law practice in King for 37 years and retired in 2001. During his professional career, he served as Judge of the Stokes County General County Court, Stokes County Attorney, Stokes County Economic Development Committee and as North Carolina State Bar Councilor. He was a Charter Member of the Friends of the Library which was the driving force in establishing the King Public Library. In retirement he spent most of his time in Little River, SC.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Ann Barringer Stover; three children; Stacy Stover Palmer (Christopher) of King, Richard Edward Stover, Jr (Nicole Deering) of Atlanta, Christian Davis Stover (Anna Tedder) of King; and seven grandchildren: Cameron Pruett (Eric); Lauren Palmer; Nicholas Palmer, Jackson Stover, Weston Stover all of King; Donnelly Stover and Tatum Louise Stover of Atlanta, and one great grandchild, Arlo Pruett.
At Mr. Stover’s request there will be no formal funeral service. At a later date, the family will gather at the coast for a memorialization and scattering of remains.
