

Robert D. Amato was born May 16, 1927 and passed away December 7, 2021. He was the son of the late Vincenzo and Mary Amato. Robert was the husband of the late Gloria Amato with whom he was married for 67 years. He was preceded in death by his siblings Rose, her twin sister who died in infancy, Tony, infant son Andrew, and granddaughter Mary Katherine.
Surviving Robert are his brother, Vincent Amato (Anne); his children Mark (Cheryl), Terri (Paul), Andrea (Tim); grandchildren Elizabeth (Mike) Lance (Christie) Paul (Ursula) Jonathan, Colin, Matthew, John, Angelina and Juliana. Great-grandchildren Frankie, Bridget, Landon, Isabella, Sadie, Katie, Luca and Hailey also survive him.
Robert served in the US Army during WWII as a surgical technician. He worked for the Oakland FD as a dispatcher and electrician. After retiring from the City of Oakland he moved to Arkansas. He raised chickens for Tyson and was a rural mail carrier. Once he retired from the USPO he and his wife travelled to many places most notable Alaska and they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in Jamaica.
A devoted husband and father, family was Robert's top priority. He loved his family! He was a devout Catholic and was a 3rd degree Knight for the KOC. He enjoyed camping, fishing, wood working, was a BBQ master and an awesome cook. He enjoyed traveling, gardening, coached baseball and basketball for CYO, LOVED sports, RAIDERS, A’s and RAZORBACKS!
His family appreciates all those who took time to visit him over the past year and cheered him up. They are forever grateful for the outstanding care he received at Embrace Hospice House and to his team at Regency Hospice and Amedisys Home Health Care. Robert touched many people’s lives and he will be sorely missed.
A Funeral Mass will be held at noon on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at St. James Catholic Church, Conway, SC. Burial with military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday December 15, 2021 in Florence National Cemetery.
