

Bob graduated from Abingdon High School and attended Lees-McCrae College in Banner Elk, North Carolina on a scholarship to play baseball and football. Following graduation, he played baseball for a minor league team associated with the Washington Senators. Bob later returned to school and completed his bachelor’s degree at Milligan University in Tennessee. In 1963, he moved to Stafford County and began his career as an educator and coach at Gar-Field Senior High School in Woodbridge. Bob later completed his master’s degree at Virginia Tech.
Throughout his three decades at Gar-Field Senior High School, he mentored and inspired generations of students and athletes. As the junior varsity football coach, his teams had a 50-6-1 record with 3 consecutive undefeated seasons and 5 district championships. In 2018, he was inducted into the Gar-Field Senior High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2018. Bob was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved the Rappahannock River. After retiring from teaching, he and his wife moved to South Carolina and enjoyed golfing and antiquing. Bob loved spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren and cheering on the Virginia Tech Hokies.
Bob is survived by his wife Eileen L. Greer of Little River, South Carolina; his sisters Linda G. Bobo of Morristown, Tennessee; Janice G. Johnson of Abingdon; his son F. Brawner Greer and his wife, Jennifer A. Greer of Winter Park, Florida; his daughter Ashley A. Greer and her husband, John “Buddy” Rogers, of Richmond; his grandchildren Sienna S. Ottinger; Annika S. Ottinger; Katja B. Ottinger; Natasha A. Ottinger; Romani G. Rogers; and Sofia G. Rogers. His parents, Gladys D. Greer and Hoy W. Greer of Damascus; his brothers J. Edward Greer of Bedford and Charles P. Greer of Damascus; and his sister Virginia G. Williams of Abingdon, predeceased him.
Honoring his request, there will not be a memorial service. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Gar-Field Senior High School, 14000 Smoketown Road, Woodbridge, VA 22192, attention: Carmen Lotito, or to a favorite charity.
