My aunt Rose was an amazing person. I remember how loving, energetic and artistic she was. Once she told me that when I got married,. I should marry an Italian lady. Well, I married a Swedish lady and it did last 16 years. I have fond memories of Aunt Rose being a phenomenal cook and can still smell the tomato sauce wafting through her house. She also taught me at 8-9 years old how to pull "suckers" from tomato plants. I'll miss Aunt Rose and hope that her soul went back to the spiritual world where it came from.

Ms Rose was a great patient of mine for many years.
She was always so positive and would let me know when I was not up to snuff with her. I loved that she cared enough about me to let me know when I was not at my best.
She will be greatly missed by me and all her family.

Rose, you were an amazing lady.  You loved life, your family, your country and all whom you met.  You took what life handed you - good or bad and dealt with it with grace and courage.  You always had a ready smile.
We enjoyed our New Years Eve dinners, with Susan and Cai, especially the ones we drove to  in the snow storms.  We all loved sharing stories and memories.  You will be sorely missed by all who knew you.  Love - Chris & Anthony F.

 Rose - I Hope you Dance.

 It all began in Cedar Valley.  We were students , renting a house across the street and we met this young beautiful lady who helped us marketing in Huntington (Iga?) it was Susan ….thanks again Susan!!!!
We became close to the Herrings.  Rose could rival any Japanese landscaper.  The grounds were enclosed and beautiful.  When you stepped in…….it was captivating…. . wind chimes, hummingbirds, bright colors, even gorgeous in winter. Rose was artistic at everything and Roseanne, took that offering and brought to a new level.
Thanks Rose for sharing that dance with me at Jason’s wedding. Your gait  was compromised, but you made it happen on sure willpower and love.


The first thing that comes to mind when thinking about Rose is, "Inspiration."  What a wonderful woman, who led such a long and amazing life!    Cai and Susan,  always kept us updated on Rose's activities, and we were always in awe of her full and active life.  

It was  a treat to see  Rose at family events over the years where we always felt her warmth and love -- not to mention her wonderful, welcoming smile.  She was quite a lady who will be missed by many.  We were proud and delighted to have known her and  to have her in our lives!

Rose was such a kind lady.  We really enjoyed getting a box at Christmas with gifts that Rose had made for us. She was so talented!  I know she will be missed by all whose lives she had touched. 

I don't know where to start, Aunt Rose was my hero ,teacher, friend, advisor, that overlooked my life. When my Father, Frank Milano , on his deathbed asked her to watch over me, how fortunate I was to have a loving family member to care for me. We had many great phone calls and she never failed  to ask me to update her on my life. We would talk about politics, health, music, and family affairs.

I was lucky to stay with her one weekend and I still remember the upside down christmas tree she was so eager to show me. I would go to bed early and she surprisingly stayed up past midnight watching TV. We looked at photos and I can still taste the oatmeal cereal made special for my pleasure.

Every christmas I would receive knitted hats ,scarves and mittens that I treasure till today. Always received birthday ,Easter, Thanksgiving, ,all the holidays cards and sometimes a little Ten dollar bill included.

Her life was vibrant and love of flowers just by viewing cedar Valley home on long Island . What a great lady. Glad I got to see her on her 101st birthday, Wish I could see her more ,very painful knowing she is not around to see and visit.

I love and have always loved  you Aunt Rose ,someday all the family will be together again. I look forward to it.

I met Rose at the grocery store where I work.  I looked forward seeing her sweet smile and our chats.  Rose gave me the "Cross in My Pocket" she crocheted which I carry in my wallet today.  Such a special and wonderful lady that I am so glad to have known.  I also met her very nice daughters Roseanne and Susan.

Rose visited us often in western North Carolina.  Any project I was working on she was there with tools in hand. During my carport project she was in my pick up bed handing me lumber. She loved the mountains, touring all the sites and playing golf.
She treated my two girls from Arkansas and their children like they were her own.
Painting, drawing, knitting, crocheting,  cooking, interior design, dress making, crafts, landscaping, growing vegetables and beautiful flowers....she was a master of all.

I don't know where to begin to tell a story of how Rose, Mom, changed my life and my family. Rose and Marvin really welcomed me into their family and created an environment of love and caring for Susan and myself  and our boys Jason and Matthew.  I just loved the way our kids "her boys" looked up to them and later after Marvin's passing how it strengthened with her. They were so proud of their grandmother.  Rose had lots of stories to tell about her amazing life and those stories always included lessons in how to treat and respect others. Those lessons became a part of their make up. Grandma Rose was always there for them guiding and loving them and supporting them in all they did. We will always celebrate all that she gave us and will pass on her legacy to her great grandchildren Emma Rose and Landon.  She will always be in my heart.  What an incredible life!!!

Rose was truly special and always made my days brighter when I saw her. Rose treated me like I was her very own and always made me feel welcome. Every year she would send us scarfs and hats she knitted and she painted me a picture for graduation that was so thoughtful. 

Rose was such an amazing lady. She always made me and my family feel so welcome every time we came to visit her while we were in Myrtle Beach. She was so sweet to make and send us scarfs and hats each Christmas. I always say I want to act as young as Rose did when I get to be here age. She had such a full, long life. She will be dearly missed!

Grandma Rose where do I begin! You welcomed me with  open arms into the family. I have so many memories that will be cherished. I will miss our chats. Our recent conversation was short but you said to me “I am so proud of you and that you knew Jason will be fine”. Those words will stick with me forever. We couldn’t wait until Christmas because we knew you were coming up to visit. You loved Christmas because you were able to spend time with the family and you always decorated Sue’s tree so beautifully. From our visits to myrtle beach to our tea room luncheons these will all  be in my heart. I am so glad you met your Great grand son Landon and that we got to spend time with you in May. Your name will  never be forgotten because Emma carries it. You are the definition of a legacy.. 102 …. And never gave  up a fight. May you be in peace! You will be forver missed Elizabeth

Dear Grandma Rose. 

You were the best grandma anyone could ever have. I will always remember You called Matt and I “your boys”. We were always together and you took such great care of us. You guided us and pointed us in the right direction. We had so much fun when we lived together in Connecticut and especially in the Ashroaken house on the water with some of those crazy parties. We loved being together all those years. We were so lucky to have you around all the time. So many great memories!

You always took such great care of all the gardens at the house that were absolutely beautiful and you were a member of the local garden club. You taught me all about how to garden and I am teaching my kids what you taught me.  I always enjoyed talking to you about how my garden is going and what new additions I have or ask for advice for something. 

I am very happy that Elizabeth, Emma, Landon and I were able to spend time with you this year. We had such a great time with you and it felt so good to give you a big hug and a kiss and sit down and talk. So happy you could see Landon and Emma they will remember you forever. The staff and the girls that took care of you were truly amazing and I am so thankful to them for taking such great care of you.

My Grandma  Rose was more than a Grandmother. She raised my brother Jason and I.  I loved spending time with grandma. Rose taught me how to cook, drive, garden, always be kind to others and so much more. She was extremely loyal to our family, we could always count on her. I am especially thankful for the core values she has instilled in my daily life that I will hold forever. She taught me integrity is the most important thing in life. I will never forget her smile, soft skin, beautiful face and comforting voice. I will cherish the memories forever and ever and especially miss her voice and outfit this Christmas. Rose was truly one in a million. Life will never ever be the same without her although it is comforting knowing she  passed in peace and is now with her husband & family in Heaven. I am so thankful for the love and care my Aunt Rose, Uncle Ray, mother & father have given Rose towards the end of her life. I am also so grateful for all of her amazing friends & caretakers in SC, you are all angels and I am forever grateful.  I love you SO SO SO much Grandma, nothing will ever compare to the time we spent together. Thank you for being so amazing to our family.  I will think of you grandma every single day until the end of time. I can still smell your pasta fagoli like it was yesterday. I know you are dancing in Heaven with your healthy legs & loving family. Rose  was a very dignified special resident that I have had the pleasure of knowing for a number of years.  I will always keep close at heart a very special cross that Rose crocheted for me that included a special prayer that I kept with me during my long illness that to this day I will say it brought me through to recovery.
She will always be with me in my heart. I will never forget her.

I have many happy memories of visits with Miss Rose along with Patsy Pierce and our grandchildren, Emily and Nic. We all loved spending time with her and she loved the kids. We always managed to bring small gifts for her birthday and Christmas. We brought different cakes from time-to-time, but I think her favorite may have been the fresh peaches we brought in season. I have attached one of my favorite photos with Patsy and me taken on Miss Rose's 100th birthday. Miss Rose will be missed.

             I remember the first day we had met , I just knew our bond would be unbreakable. We had shared so much laughter , an remarkable stories of your life. You had bought so much joy & love into my life just as much I did unto you (mama). I am overjoyed knowing that you had loved me like your own. I thank you for the time we had shared,and memorable moments. Mama Rose you were more than just a wonderful person in my eyes you was always kind and considerate to me . It was my pleasure to know and to love Ms. Rose Herring . She was my next door neighbor for many years at Cypress Bay Golf and Tennis Resort.  Ms. Rose never failed to show her abundance of love to my granddaughter, Emily,  my partner, Fred, and to me.  We will miss spending time with Ms. Rose, but she will be near and dear to our hearts forever!

Dear Mom...I feel honored and privileged to have been your daughter. You were the best mother anyone could wish for.  You were the best Grandma to Jason and Matthew and helped guide them to be the incredible loving adults they have become. Emma and Landon were so blessed to have you. You were an incredible Great Grandma. I will miss the sound of your voice, the stories you told,  the warmth of your hugs, and your incredible spirit. You taught me to be strong and brave. Rose (Milano) Herring was my beloved aunt. She was a treasured member of the Milano family. I have a vivid memory of her in shorts with a strapless sports top pushing a double-wide lawn mower  over 5 acres of property with sweat on her muscular back. She built a swimming pool on the driveway using cement blocks which delighted all the children and even the adults. That driveway became a skating rink in the winter. We had great gatherings all year long with BBQ's and grand dinners with three generations of 20+ relatives. Rose was a formidable presence in our family. She loved her brothers, her husband, Marvin and her daughters, Roseann and Susan. She was hard working, creative, fun loving and beautiful. Rose adapted to the changes in her life. She lived with Susan and her husband, Cai, and helped to raise her grandsons, Jason and Matthew, during Susan's teaching career. After her grandsons were launched she moved to South Carolina to be near Roseann. Rose lived independently until moving to  River Park for her last earthly home. She delighted in the visits with her great grand children, Emma and Logan. She was mentally sharp and enjoyed a her relationship with her care givers and amused them with her stories and wit. Rose was a strong believer in God and has been called to her eternal home. We will dearly miss her.

We are so sorry to hear about Rose's passing.  She was such a sweet and caring person.  When our son was young, she knitted the most beautiful sweater and hat for him, and we still have it to this day.  She was such a classy caring person whose smile lit up the room when se was in your presence.  What a wonderful life she lived!  She will be missed!  Roseann, you and your family are in our prayers!!

I had the good fortune of knowing Rose as a dear friend.  I will always remember her artistic creativity, sharp wit, determination and compassion for others.  I thank God for giving us the opportunity to become friends. It truly was a privilege.  




My sister Susan and I wish to personally thank Darlene, Aundreia,  Lisa,  Suzanne, Deb, and Patsy and Fred for the years of love, support and friendship they showed to our mother Rose.  Their faithful friendship brightened her days and filled her heart with love. We know God put all of you in Rose's life.  Thank you to each and every one of you. 

I will always treasure the time I was able to have with Rose, I will miss seeing her at work everyday. We had wonderful talks and always some good laughs, she was my biggest cheerleader and we became family during her stay at River Park. I will miss and love you always, Lisa
