Russell William Foltz was born on June 15, 1930 in Washington DC to Zelsbur and Margaret Foltz. He was the second son and third child out of ten. When he was 15 years old, he was a Senate page. When he was 17, he was a lab tech and had aspirations of being a doctor. Instead, he chose to work as a barber in the National Airport.
He met the love of his life, Ann McNeil, on a blind date when he was 19. They married in 1950 and had two children: his daughter Linda, a psychologist residing in the Atlanta, GA area, and his son, Larry, who died of heart failure following complications of severe asthma, in 1967 at the age of 12.
In 1957, he and his family left Maryland and moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He initially worked with his father in a barber shop in West Fort Lauderdale. In 1964, they relocated to northeast Fort Lauderdale and eventually added a beauty salon at the same location.
In 1973, Russ left barbering, moved to Tallahassee, Florida, and went into the electrical supply business with one of his younger brothers, Stan Foltz. Their business, Tri-State Supply, was very successful. They had several stores in Florida and Georgia (never made it to the third state!)
In 1988, Russ and Stan sold their business because they got an offer they “couldn’t refuse”, and Russ retired at the age of 58. In 1989, he and Ann relocated to North Myrtle Beach, SC, where they were residing at the time of his death.
Russ always loved to be outdoors. As a teenager, he and his best friend, Clarence (who was killed in the Korean War), used to ride around the hills of Maryland on their Indian motorcycles.
Russ was an excellent fisherman. He could filet a flounder with lightning speed. He generously shared fishing trips with his friends and his daughter. On one magical occasion, he and his daughter were surrounded by a pod of over 30 dolphins in the ocean, who joyfully leapt around their boat for over 30 minutes, until it was time to leave.
He began golfing in Tallahassee, and was very proud of his hole in one on the Surf Club Golf Course in North Myrtle Beach. He also loved landscaping and gardening. A stranger once came to his door and asked him who his gardener was because his yard was so stunningly beautiful!
Russ became a believer in Jesus at the age of 9, after being invited to church by a friend. As a result of this, his entire family eventually all accepted Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior.
Russ had a happy, upbeat demeanor and a fun, clever sense of humor. He was a devoted husband and father. His wife and daughter were the two most important people in his life, and he showered them with constant love and generous care.
He is survived by his wife, Ann, daughter, Linda, brothers Stan and David, sister Joyce, and numerous nephews and nieces.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Samaritan’s Purse.
Services will be held at Lakeside Baptist Church, 615 11th Ave N, North Myrtle Beach, SC 29582 at 3 p.m. on Saturday, March, 15, 2025. Lee Funeral Home and Crematory of Little River is serving the family.
