Life is not the same knowing you are not in it. No one will ever replace your sweetness, kindness, caring, and genuine love for all. Your extraordinary talent and vocals will b missed and there will never be another. My friend & love. 

I was so truly sorry to hear of Sammy's passing. He was one of the kindest and sweetest men I've ever known. 
When I first met him he treated me as if he'd known me all his life, and made me feel welcome in that new chapter of my life.
Heaven gained one of the good ones for sure. Praying for Peace and comfort for his family and friends.

We are in total shock. I had been trying to call Sammy up until this afternoon around 5:40 PM. No answer and Sammy’s messages were full. We went to dinner at the Grapevine and happened to run into Smokehouse Brown. I asked him if he knew anything about Sammy and he informed us that Sammy had left us. I am (we are) crushed. We loved Sammy. He had such a good soul and was a very dear friend. No one can fill Sammy’s shoes… no one ever. Learning this news really hurts us. We just can’t believe we will never see Sammy again on this earth. We hope and believe we will see him again in Heaven. May God bless his memory. 

Sammy (Sambo),my friend with the grin of all grins.  Sorry to know you ‘caught the Cannonball” and headed on up the line.  Last time seeing Sammy was super special ; like him.   I was with gal friends after my Dads funeral services and heard Sammy was playing a gig so we went to see him.   He knew my dad had passed and asked about my mom   Genuine and kind.   Made a special shout-out  for our family then dedicated and sang his signature song “The Weight” telling the packed house , “this one’s for ,Bobby Gore. “!   Besides Sammy my friends and myself most folks there didn’t know him at all.   Of all the times I heard him perform that song through the years, it was that last time I cherish most special  .Thank you for being you SAMBO

I have many fond memories of Sammy from childhood through adulthood. His warmth and kindness, his musical gifts and easy going manner. One of those rare old souls who was friends with everyone everywhere he went. Our deepest condolences for his family and friends. 

Shocked and saddened to hear the passing of Sammy.  He was a good man with a passion for music, cooking delicious BBQ and being with friends.  Loving thoughts, condolences and prayers are with the family.  God bless.

Where does one start to share the numberist memories.  As a child playing football at church,  playing with army soldiers with Steve Hardwick.  Learning the secrets of BBQ from his dad. But then again that "wipe out sound" with the drumsticks!
He had a special gift of being loved by many,
A comforting ☺️ soul.  Sambo,  we will all miss you.  To all his family,  may our ever loving lord continue to bring celebration of his life to many 🙏.  We will miss you. 

Sammy will always remain in my heart. My condolences go out to Sammy’s family and friends. I talked with him every week and I loved him.  I know he is walking and singing with the angels now. Rest In Peace my beautiful friend.

I played music with Sambo, Lee Hickman, & Clay Mincey in the late 70s/early 80s in a band called Raze. Lived with him & his Dad for a short while. Worked with him at his cafe, "Ham & Eggs". Always had good times with Sambo. My deepest condolences to his family. I'll never forget Sambo.

I am pretty sure that this is the only time Sammy has ever caused  anyone any pain but his passing has broken more hearts than I  can count.  Our classmates have always been more like family since we have all been friends since first grade. I  always looked forward to hearing him as he entertained us with his incredible musical talents. Heaven has gained a true angel for their choir.
