
Sheldon Sartoph, age 87, of Longs, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 27, 2026, surrounded by his loving family at his home. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, he was a son of the late Max and Hannah Blum Sartoph.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Catherine Pettis Sartoph; children, Marci Kogan (Jeff), Marc Sartoph, Max Sartoph, Alicia Kovalick (Steve), Samuel Sartoph (Roni), Sara Pollard (Matt), Laura Barna (Frank), Thomas Sartoph; grandchildren, Aaron Yaffe, Jacob Yaffe, Kayla Kiser, Zachary Kovalick, Connor Pollard, Harper Pollard, Landon Stansbury, Wesley Barna, Jordan Barna, Hannah Sartoph; brother, Lee Sartoph; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Phyllis Solomon.
Sheldon had a deep love for the outdoors and found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was known for his sense of humor and his ability to make others smile. He enjoyed days spent crabbing, shooting pool with friends, watching birds, and sharing playful moments with his beloved grandchildren. Sheldon had a special affection for animals, especially elephants. A proud veteran of the United States Navy, he served his country with honor and carried that pride with him throughout his life.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 3, 2026, at Lee Funeral Home and Crematory, 11840 Hwy 90 Little River, SC 29566. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
