
Shirley Ann Boyles Slater was gently carried to Heaven in the arms of her Savior on the evening of Monday, September 5, 2022. She was born in Charlotte NC, on April 2, 1946. Shirley was the daughter of Hubert David Boyles and Maggie Amanda Boyles.
Shirley gave her heart to Jesus at the age of 10 and continued to love and serve Him until her death. As a missionary for The Assembly of God Church, she served as secretary to an Italian minister in Italy for 3 years. While there, she also evangelized with a group during the Munich Olympics and acted as a tour guide for a minister from The Assembly of God Church in Columbia, SC. After her return from Italy, she became his secretary. It was also upon her return to the states, that she met her husband, Jonathan. They were married on July 9, 1976.
Shirley loved to sing, she and Jonathan participated in ODPC Variety Shows and she sang and narrated in church cantatas. She prepared the course for and led The Women of Hope at Ocean Drive Presbyterian Church, and was a member of the Intercessory Prayer Team and Community Bible Study. Her passion in life was loving God and becoming a student of His Word and witnessing to anyone who would listen, especially during her last few months of life.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Jonathan Slater; sister, Mary Dennison; brothers, John Boyles (Carlita), Robert “Bob” Boyles (Beth), and Hubert David Boyles, Jr (Karen); nieces, Emily Monroe (Jonathan), Amy Vital (Jamie), Amanda Silver (Max), Stephany Dewitt (Robert), and Crystal Miyazono (Akirra); and nephews, Michael Boyles (Emma), Daniel Boyles (Erica), and Jason Boyles (Courtney). Shirley was loved by all her nieces and nephews and played a significant part in their lives. She is predeceased by her parents and a sister, Civey Conway.
A Memorial service will be held at Ocean Drive Presbyterian Church, 410 6th Ave S, NMB, SC 29582 on Friday, September 30, 2022 at 11:00 am, followed by a reception in Lyerly Family Life Center.
