It is with great sadness that the family of Thomas “TP” Palmer, loving and devoted husband and father of Little River, S.C, formerly of Brewster, N.Y, announce his unexpected passing on February 3, 2024, at the age of 60.
He was born in Mt. Pleasant, N.Y on August 29, 1963, and was the beloved son of the late Richard and Alice Palmer.
He will be fondly remembered by his wife, Laurie, and son, Collin. On June 20, 1987, he married Laurie Thomas, whom he deeply loved for 36 years. They enjoyed many memorable moments spending time and traveling with family and friends.
After graduating from Brewster High School in 1981, he worked for Brewster Transit Mix for many years. He owned and operated his own trucking business, LTP Transportation INC, for a short period before ending his company to be home with Laurie and their new baby, Collin. He then worked for CSX Railroad followed by Metro North Railroad until his retirement in 2021.
He joined the Brewster Volunteer Fire Department in 1982 at the age of 18, where he quickly rose to the rank of Lieutenant in 1984 and Captain in 1985. After serving with pride for many years, he again took the oath of Captain in 1990 where he remained until he was elected to the office of Second Assistant Chief in 1992. He was officially elected Chief in April 1996 and remained in office until April 1998. He was later elected Commissioner for the Brewster Southeast Joint Fire District in 2008, where he served until 2013. His sacrifice and dedication to his family, the department, and to the community were second to none. He was a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council # 7122 in North Myrtle Beach, S.C.
He had a passion for coin and gun collecting. He enjoyed vacationing in North Myrtle Beach for many years which ultimately led to his decision to enjoy the remainder of his life there.
TP touched so many lives. He was a great friend and co-worker to many.
In addition to his wife, Laurie, and his son Collin, who he was so very proud of, Tom is survived by his brothers, Paul Palmer (Renee), Werner Pfeiffer (Giovanna), Walter Pfeiffer (Susan), Karl Pfeiffer (Theresa) and his sister Silvia Grady (Brian), many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his honor can be made to the Brewster Volunteer Fire Department.
