Walter Niederberger, age 87, of North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Walter was the “Rock” of his family, and he will be lovingly missed by his wife, his sons, his grandchildren, extended family and friends.
Born in 1937 in New York, NY, Walter lived a life full of love, purpose, and quiet strength. Honest and direct, he told you the facts and always honored his commitments. He was gregarious, generous and kind. In his professional life he built a successful career in banking, where his integrity and calm demeanor helped business people achieve their dreams.
Walter was a devoted husband to Patricia Ann, a proud father to Brian and Kenneth, and a deeply devoted grandfather to Alex, Keely, Drew, Keira, and Kailyn. He is also survived by his brother Frank, and his beloved dog Kasey Joy, along with many extended family and friends.
Beyond his work, Walter was a great cook and baker, a gifted tennis player, a passionate dog lover, and a truly generous soul. He loved cooking for all his family, but he especially loved making his famous breakfast oatmeal for his grandkids. A converted Catholic he lived his faith through service as an usher, kindness to others, and a tireless devotion to his family. Always generous he supported the Catholic church and of course his family. Those who knew him will remember his smile, his gentle heart, his thoughtful presence, and the deep love he had for his wife Pat and family.
A Vigil to celebrate his life will be held on Sunday, April 6, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Lee’s Funeral Home in Little River, SC. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, April 7, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in North Myrtle Beach, SC, followed by placement of his ashes in our beloved church’s columbarium.
