with her devoted and loving husband Edward Alexander Peslak, Ed, of 61 years by her side. It
was upon conclusion of Ed’s recitation of the first decade of the Glorious Mysteries of the
Rosary, “the Resurrection”, that Berny passed from this Valley of Tears.
Berny was born on November 17, 1935 in Newark, NJ, daughter of the late Louis C. and Bridget
E. LeFrancis (nee Masterson).
On May 25, 1957, Berny married Edward Alexander of Eynon, PA, and tending to and nurturing
the family they created together was her passion and life’s work. Originally residing in Belleville,
NJ, Ed and Berny eventually settled in Bloomfield and later moved to Livingston, NJ where they
lived for more than 40 years, eventually residing in Ledgewood, NJ. Berny worked for
numerous years as a court clerk in the Essex County Courthouse in Newark, NJ.
Both Berny and Ed were devout Roman Catholics and active parishioners at various parishes,
including St. Peter in Belleville, St. Valentine in Bloomfield, St. Therese in Succasunna and St.
Philomena and St. Raphael in Livingston, NJ.
Generous and compassionate, Berny touched so many with her warmth, sense of humor and
genuine kindness. While she answered to many different names, mom, grammy, Berny and
Mrs. P., she will be fondly remembered by all those who knew her. Berny leaves her loving
memories to be cherished by her husband Edward Alexander and their adoring children and ten
grandchildren: Edward Allen, his wife Jean and their two children Edward Andrew (and wife
Christine) and Jessica Lynn; Bernadette Mary, her husband Joseph Gurski and their two
children Alexander Joseph and Katherine Ann; Robert Stanley, his wife Joyce and their three
children Kylie Marie, Christian Robert and Cara Angela Maureen; Gerard Joseph, his former
wife Joan and their three children Kimberly Ann, Jenna Ashley and Brandon Gerard; her six
close siblings and their many children and grandchildren: William and Carol, Robert and Hope,
Monica and James, Dorothy, and the late Maureen and Louis. Berny is survived by many loving
nieces and nephews.
Berny was held dear by all who knew her, extensive family, friends and co-workers. She fought
her illness with courage, dignity and grace. In lieu of flowers, Berny has requested donations to
