

She was born in Gmunden, Austria, in 1922, and grew up in the nearby village of Völklabruck. She finished high school, was fluent in four languages, and worked as a secretary. She met William W. Lehren, an Army counter-intelligence officer stationed in the American sector of Austria early in the Cold War. They married in 1953 in Montreal, and soon moved to his hometown of Greenwich.
The couple traveled the world. Hilde visited more than three dozen countries, most of the continents and every state. She also lived in Miami Beach and Arkansas, but spent the majority of her life in Greenwich.
She enjoyed classical music, long walks and cooking, and especially spending time with
her family. She was a member of the Greenwich Baptist Church, the Woman’s Club of Greenwich, and volunteered regularly for the local Salvation Army.
She is survived by her son, Andrew Lehren, his wife, Marilyn Joyce Lehren, and grandchildren Holly and Stephen Lehren, all of South Orange, N.J. She was predeceased by her husband, William, who died in 2003. She is also survived by cousins Vitus Zeplichal of Freilassing, Germany, and Inge Pucher of Salzburg, Austria.
Visitation will begin at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 18, with a service of remembrance at 7 p.m. at the Quinn Hopping Funeral Home, 145 E. Mount Pleasant Ave., Livingston, N.J., 07039. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, May 19 at the Putnam Cemetery, 35 Parsonage Road, Greenwich.
