

Losing her mom at a young age, she moved and was raised in Verona, New Jersey with father, stepmother, Elizabeth, sister Ann, and younger brother, Todd Brady. In the late 1950's she met and fell in love with Basil Higgins at an Irish Dance in Newark, NJ, and married in 1961.
Joan was a loving, kind, supportive, loyal, devout, and an extremely funny, fierce Irish women. She loved reading, church, traveling, friends, movies, shows, singing with the Living Tone Choir, making rosary beads with the St Phil's Rosary Group, and word puzzles...especially the NYT crossword, and above all loved making holidays memorable for her family, and attending every grandchildren's events.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Basil Higgins. Her daughter, Eileen Higgins Cassano (m Michael Cassano), Gerri Higgins Fay (m John Fay), and grandchildren, Jack (Kylie), Aislin, Dylan, and two step-grandchildren, Leisa and Natalie Cassano.
She loved and was indeed loved. She will be missed immensely.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 11 from 4-8 PM at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, Livingston. Funeral mass will be offered on Friday, January 12 at 10:30AM at St. Philomena's Church, Livingston. Cremation will be private.
