

Josephine “Jomein” Marfuggi, of Verona, passed away on Wednesday, June 20, 2012. Her family will receive friends at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home of Livingston, 145 E. Mt. Pleasant Ave., on Sunday, June 24, 2-6PM. The Funeral Mass celebrating her life will be offered Monday, June 25, at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 339 Pompton Ave. (at East Bradford Ave), Cedar Grove, at 10:30AM followed by the committal service at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover.
Jomein was born in Newark on October 13, 1916 to her loving parents, Rose and Louis Caruso. She graduated from Miss Beards School in Orange. After graduation, Jomein went to Italy to travel and study art and languages. At the age of eight her father twice took the family to Europe before his untimely death at forty years of age.
With family connections to Lionel Trains, she married Philip Marfuggi who became Vice President of Lionel. In 1960, Jomein and Philip moved to Milano, Italy where Philip became President of the Italian company, Liquigas and living in Italy for 19 years. She and Philip co-owned Supermatic Pkg. Machinery, Inc. in Fairfield. Jomein was also an active fund raiser for Columbus Hospital in Newark.
Predeceased by her parents, her sister Rose, brother Joseph and husband Philip, Jomein is survived by ten nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl. Memphis, TN. 38105.
