Peter A. Tenewitz, 90, of Toms River, formerly of Livingston, passed away on Monday, April 6, 2015. Born in Palisades Park, Peter lived in Livingston for over fifty years before moving to Toms River in 2013. He was a Lieutenant Junior Grade in the US Navy and served in the South Pacific during World War II. He received his undergraduate degree from Ursinus College and his Master’s degree from Montclair State University. Peter was a teacher at Columbia High School in South Orange/Maplewood for over thirty-five years and chairman of the Math Department, retiring in 1992. Peter was an avid traveler, exploring over 140 countries on 7 Continents.
Peter was predeceased by his wife Dorothy (nee: Scerba) in 1993. He is survived by his daughter Lea Plant and husband James of Manahawkin; his son Peter Tenewitz and wife Joan of Belvidere and his son Richard Tenewitz of Brooklyn; his sister Kay Vialonga of Demarest and his five grandchildren: Beth, Julie, Terry, Anya and Nick.
