

In 1924, Ralph was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. and lived there with his parents. He enrolled in Brookyn College in 1943 and also enlisted in the United States Marine Corps that year. After attending basic training and officer training, he shipped out to the South Pacific in 1945. He served in China and returned to the United States in 1946. He completed his degree at Brooklyn College where he met his wife of 61 years, Mary Elizabeth Mader. The were married in 1948 and lived for a short time in North Arlington before Ralph was called back into the Marine Corps during the Korean War. After the war, the couple moved to Livingston where they lived for the rest of their married life.
Ralph worked for most of his professional career at NJ Bell Telephone retiring in 1984. Faith motivated his life. He was an active member of both the Olivet Congregational Church and the Presbyterian Church of Livingston. His many activities and service in the community included serving as a Boy Scout Leader, a member of the Livingston Kiwanis Club, mentoring young students in the SCEEP after school program and delivering meals to home bound Livingston residents through Meals on Wheels.
His wife Mary predeceased him. He survived by his children, Rick, Ken and Janice and his granddaughter Elizabeth.
A Memorial Gathering will be held at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home of Livingston, 145 E. Mt. Pleasant Ave., on Monday, July 7, 4-8 PM. The Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, July 8, at the Livingston Presbyterian Church of Livingston, 271 W. Northfield Rd., at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the SCEEP program or Meals on Wheels.
