Rubye Allaway

Rubye C. Allaway, 85, passed away on August 12, 2015 surrounded by her family. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home of Livingston, 145 E. Mt. Pleasant Ave., on Thursday, August 20, 2015 from 4 until 8 PM with the service, also Thursday, at 6:30 PM. Cremation will be private.

Rubye was born in Winston-Salem, NC and had lived in West Orange for 47 years. She received her bachelor’s degree from Winston Salem State University and her Master’s in education from Fairleigh Dickinson University. She retired in 2003 after 25 years as a middle school teacher for the East Orange Board of Education.

Predeceased by her beloved husband, Dr. Richard H. Allaway, Jr., she is survived by her devoted children, David and fiancée Aleksandra, Jean Griffith and husband Leo and Richard D. and wife Anqi, and her loving grandchildren Arianna, Wesley, Jacob, Elise, Kenneth and Adam; she is also survived by her siblings, George and Jasper Powell, Albertha Williams, Alice Allen and Savannah Johnson, along with many other family and friends.
