
Tom McHugh died peacefully on April 19, 2023 at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center, Livingston, NJ. Born in Jersey City, NJ, Tom grew up in Essex Fells, NJ. Tom graduated from Verona High School and initially studied accountancy at Essex County College in West Caldwell, NJ. Tom later resided in Roseland, NJ. For the last 40 years, Tom worked as part of the UFCW Local 464A union as a night shift grocery clerk in Acme stores.
Tom was kind, helpful, thoughtful and loving. His hobbies included bicycling, photography, genealogy and coin collecting. Tom enjoyed traveling and completed a trip on his bike through the Canadian Rockies. Tom was an avid collector of Beatles memorabilia; he loved attending the "Beatlesfest" events for collectors.
Tom was predeceased by his parents, Margaret McHugh and John Vincent Mchugh. Tom is survived by his sister Diane McHugh; his sister Linda Ippolito (McHugh), her husband Paul Ippolito and Tom's nephew Paul Vincent Ippolito.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Tom's name may be made to Saint Philomena Church 386 South Livingston Avenue, Livingston, NJ 07039 or to the Mohonk Preserve (https://www.mohonkpreserve.org).
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 3 from 4-8 PM at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, Livingston. Funeral Mass will be offered on Thursday, May 4 at 10AM at St. Philomena's Church, Livingston, with entombment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover.
