Alan Edward Benson

Alan Benson (1942 -2024) was known for his sharp wit and intelligent mind - always quick to let you know the best way to fix something or the right tool to bring for the job. Alan Edward Benson, 82, of Longmont, CO, passed away on July 10, 2024 after a long and wonderful life. Alan was born on March 3, 1942 in Moline, IL.

Alan attended high school in Moline, IL before entering the U.S Army in 1961, which brought him to Colorado..Upon completion of his military service, Alan attended the University of Colorado, Boulder, followed by medical school at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, where he graduated in 1974. Alan was certified by the American Board of Pathology in both Anatomic and Clinical Pathology in 1975. Alan joined the Department of Pathology at Longmont United Hospital in 1975, and became the Department Director in 1982, where he led the team until his retirement in December of 2004.

Alan and Patti were married on May 23, 1981 after a brief courtship and celebrated more than 43 years of marriage together. Alan brought his three children from a previous marriage and Patti lovingly helped raise Scott, Ginnie and Annie. Alan cherished his time as grandfather to Abbey (Virginia), Ethan and Michael (Andrea) over the years. Abbey was always able to convince grandpa to build a project while she spent time with him as a child.

Alan and Patti spent many winters in Mexico over the years to avoid the snow and cold of Colorado. Alan loved the warm weather, scuba diving (in his younger years), golfing and fishing. And, even in Mexico, Alan was an avid fan of Fox News, so he was always prepared for a partisan argument with his friends and family.

Memorial services will be held at Howe Mortuary on August 2 at 3:00 pm. located at 439 Coffman Street, Longmont, CO 80501.
