

Allen Andrew SchmidtOctober 1, 1932 “ January 13, 2016Allen Andrew Schmidt, 83, passed away January 13, 2016 at his home in Longmont.He was born October 1, 1932 in Lemmon, South Dakota to C. LeRoy and Gladys (Nelson) Schmidt. Allen graduated from Milbank High School in Milbank, SD in 1950 and attended Montana State College in Bozeman for one year. Allen enlisted in the United States Navy on March 18, 1952 and served as an Aviation Electronic Technician. He was honorably discharged on March 16, 1956. Allen was a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.While serving as an Aviation Electronics Technician he met Joyce Margaret Jordan, a Navy Wave from Colorado. They married on August 25, 1956 in San Diego, California. Allen spent 40 years in the electronics industry that included positions with General Dynamics, Northrup Titan Missile program, Stromberg Carlson, TMC Research, Montronics, Sierra Research, President of Mesa Systems, Inc., and finally an Advisory Engineer and Manager for StorageTek from 1978 to his retirement in 1995. Allen and Joyce moved to Longmont in 1999 from Boulder, CO.Upon his retirement he and Joyce spent their summers in South Dakota working on the Schmidt Homestead house in Morristown and at their Valley View Farm in Twin Brooks. He enjoyed restoring and fixing all kinds of things from cars to radios, lamps and even plumbing. If you can name it, Allen could fix it!He was preceded in death by his parents and son John Charles Schmidt.Allen is survived by his wife Joyce, three children Kathryn Lee Schmidt, Edward A. Schmidt and Susan R. Kohuth (Steve), three grandchildren Christopher A. Kleinfieldt, Madeleine L. Kohuth and Ella J. Kohuth, two sisters Bonnie Lee Clark and Joanne Olson and one brother Marlin Schmidt.Visitation will be from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, Boulder, followed immediately by a funeral service and reception on Monday January 18, 2016. Cremation will follow the service. Inurnment will be at a later date at the Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, SD.
