

Archie G. Sykes, 92, of Longmont, died October 20, 2014 at Longmont United Hospital. He was born on July 7, 1922 in Oak, Nebraska to George A. and Lula M (Wortman) Sykes. Archie attended County School District 41 and graduated High School at Ruskin, NE. Following his high school graduation he served in the United States Army during WWII. As an adult he was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church.
On December 16, 1945 he married Lauretta H. Feess in Concordia, KS. They moved to Longmont in 1952 from Nebraska. Archie worked for Rocky Flats for 23 years, retiring in 1984. Archie was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, the American Legion Post 32 and the DAV Post 16. Archie’s family always came first, and he could be found spending time with them whenever it was possible. He also enjoyed traveling, fishing and a good card game.
Archie is survived by his wife of 68 years Lauretta, his sons Doug (Pam) of Sacramento, CA; Greg (Linda) of Cincinnati, OH and his daughter Marla (John) Dirkes of Loveland, CO. He is further survived by 7 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren; three sisters Della Schiermeyer of St. Joseph, MO, Fern Fisher of Davenport, NE, and Alice Obar of Phoenix, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Jennifer D. Sykes in infancy, 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 27 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Howe Mortuary in Longmont. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 28 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church with burial to follow at Foothills Gardens of Memory.
