Born on September 16, 1924, in Onawa, Iowa, Arlene grew up in nearby Monona county where she attended Monona High School and was crowned prom queen; a testament to the grace and charm she carried throughout her life.
As a young woman, Arlene answered her country’s call during World War II, moving to California and proudly serving as one of America’s iconic “Rosie the Riveters,” helping build the planes and equipment that secured victory.
After the war, she married the love of her life, Lynn Davis, and together they raised two sons, Greg and Jeff. To support her growing family, Arlene founded and successfully operated Davis Curtain and Upholstery, a business that reflected her creativity, work ethic, and entrepreneurial spirit.
In the 1960s, Arlene briefly entered local politics, running for town office before choosing family adventure instead; withdrawing her candidacy so the Davis’ could begin a new chapter in Colorado in 1966. Once settled in Longmont, she worked first at the Longmont Clinic and later at Ball Aerospace, where she enjoyed a rewarding career until her retirement in 1987.
Retirement only opened new doors for Arlene. Arlene stayed wonderfully active, delighting family and friends with her beautiful baking and masterful woodworking projects; gifts of her hands and heart that will be cherished for generations.
Arlene truly enjoyed life, meeting every day with enthusiasm, warmth, and a twinkle in her eye.
She is survived by her devoted sons, Greg Davis (Barbara) and Jeff Davis (Lea); five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a wide circle of friends who were blessed to know her.
Arlene Davis lived with purpose, loved without reservation, and left the world brighter than she found it. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered. Burial to be in Onawa, Ia.
