B. Joan Williamson

June 29, 1932 to August 16, 2015

Joan was born in Prescott, Iowa to Flo McGregor and Harry O’Riley. She grew up and was educated there.

In 1952, Joan married Dean Williamson who was, at the time, in the Navy. They made their home in San Diego and Long Beach, California until his discharge. They returned for a short time to Iowa and then made their home in Longmont, Colorado.

Together they had three sons, Gary Dean, Scott Edward, and Brian Eugene. All were a source of great pride and she was always involved in their activities in school, church, sports, and scouting.

Without a doubt, her other pride and joy were her grandchildren. She was the happiest when they could all be together, camping in the RV, swimming, playing games, sleepovers, but most of all just watching them grow.

Joan worked at Bankers Life Insurance Company in Des Moines, IA, San Diego Credit Bureau, University of Colorado, and St. Vrain Valley Schools at Loma Linda Elementary School as a Secretary. She retired after 25 years at Loma Linda.

She always enjoyed being around children and young people. She helped with Sunday and Bible School, was a Cub Scout Den Mother, and helped with Recess Duty at school. She considered it her “Fun Time.” After retiring, Joan volunteered at Sanborn Elementary helping students with reading.

Joan was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Longmont and was of the Methodist Faith.

Preceding her in death are three brothers, Harvey, Robert, and Max, and three sisters, Patricia, Sarah, and Maxine.

Surviving are her husband, Dean, and sons, Gary and wife Kay of Plymouth, MN, Scott and wife Schellie of Aurora, CO, and Brian and wife Kathy of Kennewick, WA.

Grandchildren Brianna Williamson of Mattawa, WA, Kelci and husband Travis McKenna of Benton City, WA, Patrick Williamson of Plymouth, MN, James and Malorie Williamson of Aurora, CO and Elizabeth King of Burlington, Ontario.

Great Grandchildren, Ashley Giossi and Andrew King of Burlington, Ontario.

Also surviving is her sister-in-law, Laura O’Riley of Westminster, CO, brother-in-laws Max and wife Phyllis Williamson of Grass Valley, CA, and Michael and wife Karen Williamson of Fresno, CA, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

There will be a memorial service for Joan in Longmont, CO, Friday September 4th at 11am at Howe Mortuary, Longmont, CO. Inurnment will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions are requested to Longmont Humane Society or TRU Community Care Hospice.
