
Betty Blanche K hler of Longmont died June 3, 2012, at The Bridge Assisted Living. She was 93. Betty was born June 22, 1918, in Columbus, Ohio. She was the daughter of Daniel Bukey and Ethel (George) Bukey. She attended school in Columbus, Ohio, and attended beauty school after graduation. Betty met her husband, Elden, at a small-town festival homecoming dance at Galloway, Ohio, and it was love at first sight. They were married at her home on April 18, 1942, and celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary before Elden passed away in 2010.After being a homemaker for many years, Betty went to work for Ohio Bell Telephone Company for ten years. During their retirement, she and Elden traveled to Europe and Hawaii, and later bought a motor home and traveled to almost all of the states and part of Canada. As a homemaker, she raised two sons and enjoyed summer camping vacations. In 1986 they decided to put roots down in Oleander Acres, a senior retirement park in Mission, Texas, where they would spend their winters. They kept their motor home and continued to travel during the summers, spending several months each in California and Colorado with their children and grandchildren. Betty was active in their Oleander community, playing the piano for Sunday church services, participating in crafts with friends, and competing in shuffle board. She also competed in pie making contests, where her pink grapefruit pie won 1st prize several years in a row. She enjoyed playing Eucher with friends and family throughout the years. While spending time in Colorado with her grandchildren, she spent a lot of time with her granddaughters in the motor home in the backyard of their son, David, teaching them crafts and how to make paper butterflies out of magazine pages and pipe cleaners.Betty and Elden moved to Colorado in 1996 to be close to family. She was a member of Ambassador Baptist Church and played the piano for Sunday services there also. She was blessed with three grandchildren and four great grandchildren.Surviving are her two sons, David K hler, and his wife, Donna, of Longmont, and Jeffrey K hler, and his wife, Carole, of Riverside, California; a grandson, Andy K hler, and his wife, Jenna, of Broomfield; two granddaughters, Jaime K hler of Denver and Mindy Gratny, and her husband, Cody, of Westminster; four great grandchildren, Liam, Roma, and Soren Gratny and Mazzy K hler; and one nephew, Tom K hler, and his wife, Sharon, of Fallbrook, California.A cremation has been entrusted to Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 11, at Ambassador Baptist Church, 2015 Third Avenue, with Pastor Dave McElreath officiating.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made either to Ambassador Baptist Church or the OUR Center, c/o Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, 326 Terry Street, Longmont,CO 80501.
