Bev was born on June 24, 1931 to Carl & May McCormick near Madrid Nebraska. She had nine brothers and sisters, Jack McCormick (Linda Kay), Mona Cooper (Bill), Shirley Briggs (Ron), Dene Hogue (Phil), Garry McCormick (Tami), Bob McCormick (Shirley), Kharon Benge (Jerry), Sharon Burge (Dale), and Roger McCormick. She graduated from Madrid High School. She went on to attend the University of Nebraska and got her teaching degree in 1951. She taught kindergarten and first grade in Stanton, Nebraska and later moved to Aurora, Colorado to teach school.
She met her future husband, Leonard Hamre, at Denver City Park. Len asked for her telephone number and she gave him the number to the temperature line. Luckily he was smart enough to check the number on the vehicle license registration that was on the adviser of the car. They were married on December 30, 1956 in Madrid Nebraska. Later, Bev always said “Why did I pick that date, I can never remember it since it is right between the holidays”. But Len would always remember. They just celebrated their 62 anniversary.
Later, Bev worked at a bank until her first child was born. She became a stay home mom (which is defiantly a full job of its own) to her two children. After her children were older, she went to work for a veterinarian and later for the Adams County School District. She always liked working with kids.
Family and friends were extremely important in her life. She was active in her family’s lives; including taking her children to various dance lessons, baseball practice, drum lessons, Girl Scouts, and attending many sporting events of her grandchildren.
Beverly is survived by a host of family that included her devoted husband, Leonard Hamre, loving children Mikele Wright (Tracy) and Kerry Hamre (Patricia), five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren, as well as many wonderful sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her sister Mona Cooper.
