
Kiester, MN “ A Celebration of Life service for Carroll Lee Buhmann, 62, of Thornton, Colorado will be held at 10:30 a.m. on October 8, 2011 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church 605 W. State St., Kiester, MN. Burial will occur at Zion Lutheran Cemetery (4 mi. east of Kiester) following the service. Lunch and social hour at Our Savior's Lutheran Church will follow the Burial Ceremony. Carroll Beam Buhmann peacefully left his earthly home to walk with Jesus after a courageous battle with cancer on September 17, 2011. In his last hours, he was surrounded by his family and special friends. Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, Longmont, CO is assisting the family with arrangements. Carroll was born August 14, 1949, in Fairmont, MN, the son of William (Bill) and Lillian (Brones) Buhmann. Carroll attended schools in Trimont and Kiester, MN. He was a 1967 Graduate of Kiester High School. Carroll graduated from Mankato State College with a Bachelors Degree in Mathematics and Business Administration.After college graduation, he briefly worked in Mankato, MN and then moved to Boulder, CO in 1973. In 1976, Carroll moved to Thornton, CO. He worked in the building trades for all of the 38 years he lived in Colorado. In the early years, he built houses, mountain condos and worked at Boise Cascade. In the later years he was a building contractor in the Denver, CO region on commercial projects and upscale homes. His specialty was fine detail and decorative woodwork including custom entry doors, spiral staircases, wine cellars, fireplace mantles and specialized custom cabinetry. Carroll worked as a Master Carpenter on projects for several Denver area celebrities. He skillfully applied his creative construction talents to numerous, complicated, and ornate projects. He thoroughly enjoyed working with wood.Carroll's church history begins with Baptism at Pleasant Prairie Evangelical and Reformed Church, (rural East Chain, MN). He was Confirmed in the Christian Faith at Zion Lutheran Church (rural Kiester, MN) and married Betty Couch at Atonement Lutheran Church (Boulder, CO). To this union, one son, John, was born. Carroll attended Lord of Life Lutheran Church, Thornton, CO.Carroll was a fun loving person and greatly enjoyed family, friends, backyard barbeques and working in his woodshop. His special interests included woodworking, volleyball, throwing darts, hunting and camping. He was a Master Dart thrower and a member of the 1988 Championship Denver Masters Dart Team. Carroll was also an avid fan of baseball's Colorado Rockies (MLB) and football's Denver Broncos (NFL).Left on this earth to cherish Carroll's memory are his wife, Betty Buhmann and son, John Buhmann both of Cedarville, OH; mother, Lillian Buhmann of Northwood, IA; brothers, Ronald (Janice) Buhmann of Boulder, CO; Larry (Janet) Buhmann of Edina, MN and Duane (Lorene) Buhmann of Lake Mills, IA; brothers-in -law, Dan (Myoung) Sanders of Colorado Springs, CO and Steve (Shirley) Sanders of Ph nix, AZ; sister- in-law, Verginia (Ginger) Sickler of Oregon; nieces, Angela (Scott) Yarbrough, Jennifer (Ryan) Wirjtes, Annette (Mel) Glover and Kendra Sanders; nephews, Andy (Heather) Buhmann, Bill Buhmann and J Buhmann; grandnieces, Arielle Yarbrough, Arabella and Abigail Buhmann , Shauna Koch and Krisanne Wirtjes; grandnephews, Ethan Yarbrough, Kasey and Brody Wirtjes and Jefferson Sanders; aunt, Maxine Brones of Fairmont, MN; and uncle, Kenneth Brones of Swea City, IA , as well as many cousins, extended family and friends.Carroll was preceded in death by his father William Herman Buhmann, mother-in-law Alma Bowyer, grandparents William Henry Buhmann, Ida (Weise) Buhmann, Jay Warren Brones, Betha (Kessey) Brones, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
