Catherine was born on February 10, 1925 in Walsen Camp, Colorado to Steve and Catherine (Sutyak) Duzenack. She grew up in Walsenburg and was married on November 18, 1945 in Franklin, Nebraska to Jack LaPorte Hicks.
Catherine was a person who was always doing something and had a project to do. She was a telephone operator during World War II, made draperies as a business, belonged to a knitting club and had 15 knitting machines, enjoyed doing yard work, and jigsaw puzzles. She could be described as the “kitchen gadget queen” but also enjoyed keeping up with the latest technology. She was computer literate, on Facebook, did a great deal of genealogy research on her family history, and was a life-long learner.
Mrs. Hick’s greatest love was her family. She was a “professional” grandmother who raised and took care of her two grandchildren and her great grandson. She was a “flight tracker” for her grandson following the flights that he took. Her love and devotion to her family made her very special and she will be missed.
Catherine was preceded in death by her parents and husband, a brother Steve Duzenack and by three sisters: Anne Duzenack, Mary Pedas, and Sue Lenzotti. She is survived by her daughter Jackie Watkins and her husband John of Longmont, two grandchildren: J B Watkins of Commerce City, CO and Katie Delgado and her husband Mike of Longmont, and by her great grandson Walter Delgado.
Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Howe Mortuary and Cremation Services. The family will hold private services in the spring with inurnment at Ft. Logan National Cemetery in Denver.
