Chuck met the love of his life in high school at the A&W where Carol was a waitress. He loved to brag about her being a cheerleader at Pacouli Catholic School while he was a student of Austin High School. He made his first romantic advance to Carol by leaving her an exorbitant tip of over $1 in coins.
The high school sweethearts were married in February of 1963 when both were still in their teens and had graduated from high school. They enjoyed over 62 years of marriage. They established their home in St. Peter Minnesota where they welcomed four children, Chris, Scott, Michele and Sherri.
Chuck earned his degree in education and history from Mankato State College, later earning his Master’s in Education. Throughout his academic journey, Carol played an essential role, even helping him with his thesis by typing it out on a typewriter at the kitchen table into the late hours of the night.
Chuck’s life was forever transformed when he accepted Christ as his Savior in 1973. He and Carol consistently shared that the Lord was the foremost priority in their lives.
In 1979 the happy couple decided to move the family to Colorado where Chuck took on the role of middle school principal at Fort Lupton Middle School. He served there until 1989 when he transitioned to Walt Clark Middle School in Loveland, Colorado. When Thompson School District growth demanded a new middle school Chuck was invited to lead the opening of Lucille Erwin Middle School. He served as principal at LEMS from 1997 - 2004. His legacy as a leader was cemented when he took many of the most dedicated teachers with him from WCMS to LEMS. He was known as a leader who always placed the needs of students and his staff at the forefront. Chuck retired from Thompson School District in 2004 after decades of shaping the lives of countless students, educators, and communities.
Outside of his professional life, Chuck was a family man at heart. He was deeply proud of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. While he was unwavering in his love and support, he loved to tease and embarrass anyone. He was quick with a joke and met banter with a loud bellowing laugh.
Chuck and Carol were founding members of Rocky Mountain Christian Church and have remained connected in friendship, worship, and life groups with many of the same friends for over 45 years.
He is survived by his loving wife, Carol; his children Chris Stevens; Scott (Leslie) Erickson, Michelle (Brett) Costigan, Sherri (Jayson) Specht; ten grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Rocky Mountain Christian Church, located at 9447 Niwot Road, Longmont, Colorado, 80503. The service is scheduled for December 19, 2025, starting at 2:00 pm.
