

Daniel R. Gomez, of Longmont, died September 4, 2006 at Longmont United Hospital. He was 59.Dan was born on November 27, 1946 in Longmont to Joe Gomez and Rose Cardenas Gomez. He was proud to have been a fourth generation Coloradan.Dan grew up in Longmont, graduating from Longmont High School 1964. On February 10, 1966 he married Grace Gutierrez in Colorado Springs. One month later he entered and served with the U.S. Marines in Vietnam. He received a number of medals including the Purple Heart. His injuries took a number of months to heal, much of it at the Fitzsimmons Army Hospital in Denver.Following his service to his country, Dan attended and graduated from the National Business College, graduating summa cum laude.For the past 37 years Mr. Gomez has worked for the US Department of Commerce in Boulder, where he was the Chief of the Contracting Branch of the Mountain Region Acquisition Division. Mr. Gomez has been an active member of New Creation Church for many years. He served as a Deacon, was superintendent of the Sunday school program and ran the bus ministry for a number of years. He was also a member of IMAGE a Hispanic Businessman?s Association.Dan was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He appreciated classic muscle cars and enjoyed the ColoRODans car shows. He also loved to spend time with his grandchildren and watching football games and boxing matches with family.Surviving are his wife of Longmont, his parents of Longmont, a son Daniel Gomez, Jr. and his wife Megan of Longmont, Christina ?Tina? Nelson and her husband Jarrod of Thornton, a brother Joe Gomez, Jr. and his wife Kim of Aiea, Hawaii, three grandchildren Spencer and Olivia Gomez and Ciarra Nelson and his cousins the Munoz family.A visitation will be held Wednesday, September 6, 2006 from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Howe Mortuary.Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday September 7, 2006 at New Creation Ministries, with Pastor Mario Latini officiating. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
