Dave was the oldest of four children, born to Richard and Loneta Bluhm on June 9, 1942 in Rochester, Minnesota. Here he attended John Marshall High School, where he lettered in track, and Rochester Junior College, where he was an actor in several musical productions.
In 1963 after his marriage to Betty Lingbeck, his wife of 61 years, he attended Brown Institute of Radio in St Paul, Minnesota.
Dave became news director at WGLB radio in Port Washington, WI and later did news and sports at WTMB in Tomah, WI. Influenced by many family trips to visit his grandmother and cousins, it was no surprise that he had a desire to make Colorado his home. Dave accepted a position with IBM Boulder on October 3, 1966, at the same time turning down several broadcasting opportunities. He later accepted a transfer and moved his family to San Jose, CA for 5 years before transferring back to Boulder. He held various management positions throughout his 40-year career with IBM.
Dave was an avid sports fan and enjoyed season tickets to CU football and basketball games, as well as professional sports. Tennis was Dave’s favorite participatory activity. He was a member and captain of the Longmont Tennis Association. Longmont’s senior team qualified several times for the National 65 years and older tennis tournaments in Las Vegas and Phoenix. In his 70’s, he took up golf and enjoyed the camaraderie of many friends.
Dave and Betty enjoyed traveling on road trips to California to see grandchildren Nicole and Garrett. He was so proud of their accomplishments. He enjoyed cruises and bus trips with friends, trips to the mountains and reunions with family and friends.
Dave was a long-time member of both Atonement Lutheran in Boulder and later, Bethlehem Lutheran in Longmont. He was a man of faith and believed the Lord blessed him in many ways. That faith instilled in him that the path to everlasting life was through the beliefs and followings of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Dave is survived by his wife, children Jeff (Stacey) and Marcia (Mike) Gorczyca, brother Tom Bluhm, sister Sally (Herb) Reichert, sister Cindy Bluhm Ward (Kevin) and brother-in-law Gary Lingbeck (Lauren).
In lieu of flowers, his family asks to please consider a donation to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church Little Pantry or if you are able, please donate blood.
Cremation is entrusted to Ahlberg Funeral Chapel of Longmont, Colorado. A memorial service for David will be held Friday, February 7, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1000 15th Ave, Longmont, Colorado 80501.
