David Daniel Humphrey

David Daniel Humphrey, age 69, of Firestone, Colorado, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, November 8, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. David was born on July 24, 1955, in Billings, Montana, to James M. Humphrey and Edith M. Cherry.

David graduated from Brighton High School and went on to earn a bachelor's degree from the University of Colorado Boulder and a master's degree from the University of Alaska Anchorage. It was in Boulder that he met Karen, the love of his life. They married on November 17, 1980, and in 1981, began their journey together by driving the Alcan Highway to start their married life in Anchorage, Alaska. The couple welcomed their first child, Terry L. Humphrey, in 1983, followed by their daughter, Carolyn D. Humphrey, in 1985.

In 1987, the family returned to Boulder to be closer to relatives, where David began his long career at the University of Colorado. He retired in 2021 after nearly 30 years of service. Throughout his life, David was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who always prioritized his family. He was an avid sports fan, particularly when it came to football, softball, wrestling, and anything related to CU sports—Go Buffs! He also had a passion for coin collecting. Family gatherings, especially those held at David and Karen's home, were always a highlight, and David loved watching his children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews play sports.

David was known for his kindness, wit, intelligence, and gentle spirit. He was a patient and caring individual, always putting others first.

David was preceded in death by his parents, James and Edith; his brothers, Terry and William Humphrey; his father-in-law, Lenny Steele; his brother-in-law, Richard Steele; and his sister-in-law, Marie Steele

He is survived by his loving wife, Karen Humphrey; children Terry (Jennifer) Humphrey and Carolyn (Isabell) Humphrey; grandchildren Leah Humphrey, Neaven Degenhardt, Sydney Degenhardt, and Dazea Callender; his mother-in-law Carolyn Steele; sister-in-law Michelle West, siblings Jim (Linda) Humphrey, Tom Humphrey, Mary Suazo, Donald Humphrey, and Robin (Lindy) Humphrey; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

David's legacy of love, kindness, and devotion to his family will forever be cherished.

A celebration of life for David will be held Friday, November 22, 2024 at 10:00 AM at the Howe Mortuary Chapel, 439 Coffman Street, Longmont, Colorado 80501. Following the celebration of life there will be a reception at 11:00 AM.
