Dean Mircos passed away on December 31st, 2023, after a 10-year-long battle with kidney disease. He was 63. Dean was born and raised in Colorado, spending most of his life in Weld and Boulder County, where he graduated from Longmont High School. Later, he attended community college in Denver, where he received an architecture degree.
As a young man, he drove his parents, Gus and Myrna Mircos (Ciocchetti), crazy by playing drums too loudly and riding motorcycles too fast. Dean was an avid hot rodder, motorcycle rider, and dog lover. If he wasn’t working as a construction inspector, first for the City of Longmont for 20 years, and later the City of Greeley, he was tearing up the roads on his Harley or one of his many fast and loud cars. When he wasn’t riding or driving, he was tinkering or training one of his many world champion bulldogs or pit bulls.
Dean lived life to the absolute fullest, doing what he loved and working hard. During his initial treatments for kidney disease, he continued to work full-time at the City of Greeley to provide for his family, even though his treatments made him feel tired and sick. Dean loved the mountains, where he spent time fishing, riding dirtbikes, and doing a whole lot of napping. In his later years, he spent time shooting Nerf guns and riding around in tractors with his grandson Max.
He was stubborn and independent, funny and loving. He drove any car he had in a way that would scare the heck out of his passengers. He was a good friend, an exceptional teacher, a great father, and a strong and resilient man. Anyone who knew him would be honored to hold the flashlight for him just one more time while he finished up working on one of those hotrods of his.
Dean Mircos was larger than life, and we are going to miss him terribly.
Dean was preceded in death by his father, Gus George Mircos, His mother, Myrna Mircos, and his sister, Nicole DeSantis.
He is survived by his children, Gus Mircos, Niko Mircos, and Alexandra Mircos; his two sisters, Kari and Margo, as well as his daughter-in-law Amanda Mircos (DeMoss) and the apple of his eye; his grandson, Max Carver Mircos.
A memorial service for Dean will be held on Wednesday, January 17th, at 11 A.M. at Howe Mortuary, 439 Coffman Street, Longmont, Colorado 80501. For attendees who are able to ride hot rods and motorcycles to Dean’s service parking will be reserved on Coffman Street
The family requests any memorial contributions in Dean’s name to go to the Longmont Humane Society.
