Derek Jay Lambert, 27, of Mead, died November 12, 2014 in Greeley, CO. He was born May 10, 1987 in Denver, Colorado, the son of Denise Stenson Lambert Vonalt and Brett Lambert. Derek was a creative youth, happily inventing new uses for all manner of household and woodworking tools, much to his parents surprise when their supplies were missing. He was a 2005 graduate of Berthoud High School where he pursued his creativity as a drummer in the band during his junior and senior years. He loved music and shared his talent as a drummer playing in bands that performed in numerous clubs in the area.
Derek developed his skills in seismic drilling, working first for Extreme Drilling of Greeley for a number of years, and more recently for American Drilling Company of Loveland. His work in seismic mapping took him from coast to coast and he took great pride and enjoyment from his work as a “heli-driller”. In his free time he enjoyed Colorado outdoor sports of rock climbing, hiking, skiing, and both mountain and road biking. He was a long enthusiast and owner of Subaru automobiles.
Surviving are his mother Denise Stenson (Dan) Vonalt of Mead, his father Brett Lambert of Longmont, his sister Bree (Casey) Schutz of Erie, and his girlfriend Roxanne Birkland of Greeley. He is also survived by his grandparents: Yolanda Stenson, Joyce Lambert and Merlyn Lambert; aunts and uncles Mark (Cathy) Stenson, Cheryl Zaruba, Kevin (Barb) Stenson all of Longmont, and Vicki (Johnny) Square of Fort Collins: and many cousins and extended family.
Family and friends will fondly remember Derek’s sense of humor, his engaging smile and his sparkling eyes.
Cremation has been entrusted to Howe Mortuary and Cremation services.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at the Howe Mortuary Chapel in Longmont, with a reception to follow.
Contributions in Derek’s memory may be made to the Berthoud High School band program.
