Diane was born in Longmont to Vaso Basta and Mary Rodmonivich Basta. She was the youngest of 9 children and grew up in Longmont, graduating from Longmont High School in 1961. Diane met and married Darrel Silbaugh in Longmont after high school. She started a career as a nail technician having her own business in Longmont for many years. Diane never met a stranger. Her love of people showed in all she did and led her, later in life, to work at the Longmont Moose Lodge and the Platteville VFW where she would enjoy visiting with everyone.
Diane loved her family and always lived as close as she could to her children. Upon retirement she moved to her son’s outside of Platteville and loved the peace and quiet of country life. Her favorite pastime was to be with her grandchildren, enjoying every moment she spent with them. She loved to laugh and had a wonderful sense of humor. She was very close to her sisters. Their get togethers were always filled with laughter and usually speaking in Serbian, her parents' native language.
Preceding her in death are her parents, Vaso and Mary Basta, her daughter, Linn Silbaugh Jenkens, her brothers, Mike, Danny, George, and Robert Basta, and her sisters, Mildred Osborn and Pearl Hopson.
Surviving her are sons, Link (Rosemary) Silbaugh, Cameron (Veronica) Silbaugh, daughter, Jesse Shearer, son-in-law, John Jenkens, sisters, Violet (Robert) Hartnagle and Helen (Harry) Johns, 8 grandchildren: Tyler, Jake, Luke, Kirk, Stauzia, Celastina, Mitchell and Caleb, 6 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
