He was born Aug. 26, 1966, in Aurora, Colo., to Weldon “Red” and Donna Southern. He grew up in Niwot and attended schools there. He graduated from Skyline High School in 1985 and Wyoming Technical Institute in 1986. From there he joined the U.S. Navy and Navy Reserves, serving from 1986-1992. He worked various jobs, including diesel mechanic, road maintenance for Boulder County, over-the-road truck driver and city bus driver.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Donna Southern.
Survivors include his father Red Southern and stepmother Barbara Southern of Firestone; brothers Joe Southern (Sandy) of Rosenberg, Texas, and Chip Southern (Susan) of Aurora; and six nephews and nieces, Jeff, Kaleigh, Heather, Wesley, Luke, and Colton Southern.
Interment was at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver.
