

Donna M. Lay, of Longmont, passed away October 3, 2018 at University of Colorado Hospital in Aurora. She was 79. Donna is survived by her children, Kim (Allen) Lenort of Longmont and Eric (Carey Rogers) Lay of Ft. Collins; sister, Dorothy Johnson of Longmont along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Mary Schlagel and her brother, Richard Schlagel and niece, Patricia Johnson.
Donna was born & raised in the Longmont area as a part of the Schlagel Family and always enjoyed attending the annual picnic. She graduated Longmont High in 1957. Donna married Darrell Lay in June of 1957 and they lived in numerous places around the Longmont area raising Kim & Eric. They divorced in 1985. Donna purchased the Pratt St. house and always had a remodeling project going on during the 30+ years she lived there. She sold her house in 2017 and moved in with Kim & Al in northeast Longmont.
Donna loved her animals. Horses; Lady, Brandy, Cactus, Skip Tina, Corkie, Diane, Ciele, and Rusty. Dogs; Taffy, Peppie, Ginger, Cinnamon, Fonzie, Fosty, Muffin and Oreo. Ferret Toshie; and all the squirrels she liked feeding in her front yard on her home-made squirrel feeders.
She enjoyed woodworking and made numerous doll furniture sets, toys, signs and other items which she enjoyed going to craft fairs to sell.
She loved watching anything to do with sports, but her favorite teams were the Rockies & Broncos.
She worked for the Longmont Clinic for many years, but then worked the last 30+ years of her career as the Medical Assistant / Office Manager for Dr. John Berson.
She joined the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks in March 29, 2000 and was Elk of the Year in 2003 and Officer of the Year in 2005. She was Exalted Ruler in 2007-2008 and lead her team to the National Ritualistic Contest in Anaheim California where they finished 2nd in the Western Division and competed in the Final Four Contest. She was very active in Longmont Elks Bingo and ran the program very successfully for many years - she loved her Bingo players.
