Doris Ada Alexander passed away peacefully on April 7th, 2018, with her daughter and granddaughter holding her close. At 97, she was the last of her generation. She was born November 20th 1920 in London, England, the middle of five sisters. A Londoner, through and through, she lived there until she was 80 years old. She and her husband George married February 15th, 1941 in the midst of WWII. Doris gave birth to her only child during the war and George was soon posted overseas with the Royal Air Force. Doris remained in London, with her sisters and parents, sharing shelter and meagre rations. They all survived the London Blitz and all the hardships of war in their homeland. In 1963, their daughter married an American and moved to the USA. By 2000, George was in failing health and the couple, now aged 80 and 81 packed suitcases and left their lifelong home, emigrating to the USA to be near their small family. In early 2002, after two years in Texas, they all moved to Longmont Colorado where their only grandchild lived. George died in June of that year. Doris soon became extremely active in the Longmont Senior Center and quickly made new friends. By her 90th birthday in 2010, she gave her daughter a list of over 90 guests to invite to her party. She was also the original force behind the British afternoon teas hosted by the British Women of Colorado at the Longmont Senior Center. She was hardworking, tireless, patient and selfless. She was witty and energetic. Practical and yet sometimes, extravagant. Generous always, to the wealth of friends she enjoyed her whole life. Doris was predeceased by her husband George, her grandson, Andrew, her four sisters, Rose, Violet, Irene and Beatrice and many other loved family. She is survived by her daughter Marilyn (Alex) Carpenter and her son in law, Mark and her cherished granddaughter, Sara Todd. All of Longmont, Colorado.
