

Doug spent his early childhood in Kansas City, MO and later childhood and teen years in Crescent City, CA. He was a graduate of Del Norte High School in Crescent City, CA in 1988. He married Suzanne in 1991 and together they welcomed a daughter, Kristin Nicole Wessley in 1992.
Doug began his career in the service by joining the Oregon National Guard in December 1993. He went on to complete Officer Candidate School concurrently with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from Sothern Oregon University in Ashland, OR in 1998 and was commissioned as an officer in the Oregon National Guard in March 1998.
In 2000, Doug remarried to Valorie and together they welcomed sons Cameron Wessley in 2004 and Aiden Wessley in 2006. They moved to Longmont, CO from the Bay Area of CA in July 2005.
Doug’s occupational history was expansive, he served as an officer in the Oregon, California, and Colorado National Guard for a total of 30 years, retiring October 31, 2024 as a Lieutenant Colonel. He taught elementary school in California from 2001 to 2004. As well as serving tours in the Sinai Peninsula, Afghanistan, and Kuwait; along with humanitarian and disaster relief efforts for hurricanes, wildfires, and blizzards. He was awarded the Bronze Star medal for service in Afghanistan from 2013 to 2014, among additional commendations and awards.
He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi of Longmont, CO and was involved with the Knights of Columbus. In his free time Doug enjoyed flying lessons, camping, hunting, fishing, gun collecting, and snuggling with his cat Lucy.
Doug is preceded in death by his mother Linda Daub and sister Sheila Wessley.
He is survived by his father Charles B. Wessley and stepmother Janet Wessley; children Kristin N. Wessley, Cameron A. Wessley, Aiden M. Wessley; brothers Roy T. Wessley, Chad Wessley; sister Amy Divine; and grandchild Ava Wessley.
Memorial contributions may be made in Doug’s name to the Wounded Warrior Project, Blue Star Families, or the Rocky Mountain Feline Rescue.
A visitation for Doug will be held Thursday, December 12, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Howe Mortuary, 439 Coffman Street, Longmont, Colorado 80501. A rosary will occur at 5:00 PM. A mass of christian burial will occur Friday, December 13, 2024 at 11:30 AM at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 3791 Pike Road, Longmont, Colorado 80503. A graveside committal will be held Friday, December 13, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 4400 W. Kenyon Avenue, Denver, Colorado 80236.
