Lots of fun times going to Longmont and grilling out with family he will be missed

Doug kindly was first to sign my yearbook, followed be Steve McCleson. It was always adventure, gregariousness, and fun choir trips with Doug. After reconnecting on Facebook he had not changed. Had I known of his struggle with cancer these last few years,,then I’d have gone to Longmont just to catch up. I'm certain it was a surprise and he did everything possible to stay positive and beat it.

While not found in the ‘84 yearbook he participated as a photographer on the team.

Doug was always with his Canon camera in hand at every football game and event.

As said, Doug made his own way. We first met in Jr. High Choir and he had the loveliest baritone voice ever. He’s an inspiration to all who knew him.

I wanted to express my condolences for the loss of Doug. I met Doug the summer of 85, walking down Pebble Beach Drive. I was from
Sacramento and my parents had a house off of Lippowitz. I spent summers there and had two with Doug. He liked to drive fast and show me all of the local spots at the river, woods, and beaches. We shared a love for music that wasn't commonly played on the radio. From Vivaldi Four Seasons, to Mozart, to The Cure, The Smiths, and Modern English. When I went back to Sacramento for the school year, we would send each other mixed tapes. We kept in touch off and on over the years. Thank you Facebook. My heart breaks for his family.  He was my first love and I will never forget him. I wish you all strength and fond memories. ❤️

This is 1LT Jamil Jones.  I am currently in the Illinois Army National Guard, but I was previously a member of the Colorado Army National Guard and worked as a fulltime employee in the G-6 office at JFHQ from JAN2023 - AUG2024.  As such, I would encounter LTC Wessley on a somewhat regular basis, whenever he needed any type of tech support.  Although our interactions were infrequent and brief, I do recall that he always had a smile on his face... always just exuded warmth, friendliness, and care... and would give me courtesy laughs at my poor attempts at humor.  :-)  It saddens my heart to hear about his passing.  He was certainly one of the good ones, whose mere presence positively affected his environment, even without saying a word, and I am certainly grateful to have known him.  My heart goes out to you all during this difficult time.

I will miss Doug for now, but I look forward to the day we meet again in a much better place. Doug was a fine soldier, a good man, a friend, a hunting and fishing buddy and my son-in-law. His passing was too soon, his life cut short by cancer. But he lived and lived well. He made his way and gave us two wonderful grandsons. They were the biggest part and the most important people In his life, and he loved them dearly. I’m thankful for them, and I will be reminded of Doug through them.  Rest In Peace my friend, your battle is over and the war is won. Rest in the arms of our Savior while we lean on His everlasting love and hope.  Jon Z

I had the opportunity to work with Douglas Wessley in the Colorado Army National Guard for a few years.  I enjoyed his thought process and his jokes.  Thank you for the opportunity to get to know you!

Rest in love, Douglas. May the angels comfort you and may Jesus give you rest in his arms.  You will always be remembered so fondly and with such love and admiration. Praying for comfort and peace for your family and all those whose lives you touched over your 56 years on earth including mine.  ~B

I am so very sorry for your loss.  Doug and I were friends in High school and he was always been so friendly with everyone. When we connected again through Facebook I realized he never changed and was still kind, funny and thoughtful.  My prayers are with you all today.
